MAYOR TALKED
TO TOE POLICE
HE INSTRUCTS THEM TO ATTEND
TO THEIR DUTIES AND NOT
GET MIXED IN POLITICS.
All of (he members of the Brunswick
police force were summoned to appear
at The city hall h?t night.
Most of toe members did not kno.v
what the meeting was to be held let.
while others were looking for just
what came.
Mayor Emanuel was present and
gave the police quite,a lengthy- lec
ture on politics, advising them not pj
mix in the present campaign.
it will be remembered that the first
part of the year, a resolution was
passed by council, putting the police
under the civil service rule. Heron
fore they nave all been elected i,y
council each year, but under the pres .
ent law they arc never elected a,.d
can serve until some charge . , ;,>•<•
furred against them.
For this reason the mayor and also
Chief Burney gave them a good talk
last night and advised them to attend
strictly to their duty and let poiitps
alone.
The new law or council is no doi ot
a good one, and should keep tic po
lice from taking a pari In city poli
tics, as they arc not (defied by coun
cil and should not lie interested in the
elections of the members of (but lanlv.
