Galc-t, a contemporary of President
Diaz, and former governor of tbestate
of Coahuaila, died tonight of cancer of
the throat. General Galat recently re
turned from tiie United States, where

New Town Meeting.
It is eeslred by Mr. Edwin Brobs
ton and the Rev. Messrs. Tnornton,
Austin ami Bradley that the meeting
spoken of in Sunday's News ue held
this evening, Wednesday, December
17th, at 8 p. m., in St. Jude’s school
house on J street. They are desirous of
a full attendance as subjects of im
portance to this end of the city and to
the cilitzcns thereof will be discussed.

The meeting ot the city council next
Monday night will no doubt be inter
esting and sensational.

of the council proceedings yesterday

mayor and council for violation of the
police mles.

John L. Lamb, Luther T. Lamb and
Lew is E. Gill.

It is understod that the two officers
are charged with violation of the po

House at the Grand Last Night.
"When Wo Weie Twenty-One," Es
mond s favorite romance, in four acts,

THE NEW CITY DOCK.
City to Make Improvements at Foot of
Albemarle Street.
As was reported in the council pro
ceedings yesterday morning the city
will shortly make a numner of im
provements ct the foot of Albemarle
hai t, and tlial place will be used as

The present city wharf, at the foot
)f Monk street, is not large enough to
iccommoriatf (he many little craft
that gather Mu re daily. Efforts were
made to seem more room from the
Downing Company, who have tire
lease, but the company could not give
iil> very much of tfieir dock room, and
it was decided to establish another
city dock at the foot of Albemarle
street.
The amount appropriated by council
for the improvement of the place is
$ 1,000, which will be sufficient to
make the place suitable for the pur
pose for which it is to be used.

The time for paying the last half or
the taxes due the city of Brunswick
for the year 1902, has been extended
by the mayor and council, until Do
