PINE KNOT FACTORY.
Following is from the Albany Her
ald:
‘‘For some reason there has sprung
up at Savannah a well defined spirit
'of opposition of the new process of
making turpentine and other pine pro
duets. Rightly called it is known a
the distillation of pine woods, but the
plants are referred to by those who
want to discredit them as “pine knot
factories.”
‘‘Recently the Naval Stores Review,
a Savanna'll publication devoted to the
! naval stores interest, gave the new
! pine products process a roast, declar
ing that the products of this were not
1 marketable until they were refined,
and, that it was not practicable In the
piney worlds where skilled chemists
were not plentiful.
"We have one of I hose pine pro
ducts plants now about com
pleted and ready to begin operation
near the city and the enterprise i
being hacked by Albany capital. Foi
this reason the Herald is glad to pub
li.sh the following encouraging note
from Moultrie, where one of these pine
products plants lias been ill sueces;
lul operation for some lime:
“Those who feared that a market
could not ho found for the products
of the Georgia Naval HI ores com
pany’s plant have had their fears set
at naught. The plant, is running day
and night and is unable to keep up
with its orders. Despite the war wag
ed on it at Savannah by certain par
ties tine spirits have gone into the mar
liet and won a victory."
There is no reson in the world why
we cannot have just such a factory
here. There is no doiilil about il
paying.
WE WELCOME THE TEACHERS
The News is extremely glad that
the teachers of Ibis great state are
to meet near us.
We can assure them that during
their short stay is our city il is theirs
and our only regret is that they can
not remain here longer.
The teachers of Georgia are a noble

May they ramie and eouie in large
