Mr. Bryan calls Mr Cleveland a

seems to be a better steorer than
the former, when it coinos to steering

Why not erect a great bronze statue
of Allagood in the capital at Atlanta
a.ong with the distinguished Ooor-
Rians? Then the members of the pris
on commission could see their hero
three times a day at least.
Fvory ordinance now of full force
and effect in the city of Brunswick,
and every law embodied in the xdty
code should be rigidly enforced. If
these laws are burdensome and work

while they are laws let them be of

The Georgia prison commission has
gone into the wholesale whitewash
and lime business. We are afraid it
will have to handle a little sapolio
and a disinfectant as n Ride line b*
tore It will be* able to accompli: b it
purpose and do a r\al good business.
Strange is it not that a great in
tcrnatlonal boat race occurred y<*ster
day coneluding at o'clock in the af
ternoon ami that two games of has*
ball occurred wthin n hundred miles
of the city, a Brunswn k club playing,
ami yet the people of this city are
compelled to wait until the News ap
pears tliis morning for th- news. Wo
•ay. it is passing strange, is it not?
The state authorities will ifrocccfl
to scatter mon* whitew ash and lime
over the prison scandal and next y ar
the smiling office* holder will be ask
ing the dear to return them
to office on th**ir “records." Whon
will the people of Georgia ever real
iae that they are being dominated l\
a clique of narrow'miml* and politicians,
who* would at all times besmirch the
escutcheon of the state in order to
gratify their personal ambitions?
If Alderman du Higtum knows of
any members of tie* city council win
are violating any of the ordinance* ol
the city, then is justice to all of the
members of the council he should say
who they are and specify wherein
they have offieided. And let's see
was It not Alderman du Dignon who.
some time ago, called the attention
of council to the fact that Mayor Cro

QUIT DREAMING.
Did it ever occur to you that the j
majority of t.h,e people of Brunswick !
are the most veritable of rainbow
chasers?
Never thought of it did you?
Well, il is a fact nevertheless. For j
years and years Ike citizens of Bruns
wick have always had, at their finger
points, some great scheme, ripe, rich
and mellow, just about to hurst and
scalier great hunches and hunks of
prosperity from I’ellicanville to the
point and even beyond the marshes
into the interior sections of the
county.
But how many of these great com
mercinl bubbles, inflated with all this
wealth of prosperity ever material
fzod ?
WjC of Brunswick are to prone to
give credence to every catch-penny
scheme that comes along, magnified
ori paper, hut painfully lacking in the
more material components, always
necessary for success. Stop just, a
moment and reflect, what an enormous
eemietcry of hurriisl hopes, as to com
mercial industries that did not
come; that we have here in Brunswick
There is a solution to tills conditionn
and a remedy for the evil —for an
evil il is.
Let’s h iv,e more faith in each other.
Let’s get. together ourselves and build
a few more small manufacturing enter
prises. Let's not si! ourselves supine
ly down and wait for the wise men
lo come onl of the east and tin' west
and the north io help up. Let’s us
Kelp ourselves.
Alnd liy all means let’s quit rain
bow chasing and bubbles breaking
Truly we have been taught some se
vere lessons on this subject, so why
not. let. it alone?
Indeed, we must quit dreaming.
——
TURNING NOISE TO USE.
Barringer Cox, of Indianapolis, has
mtule a. sudden leap to fame by an
nouncig the discovery of a, method of
harnessing and applying tie- noise of a
great city and making it a source of
mechanical power for the propulsion
of machinery
Alter first sight the Idea may seem
vlssiontyry But no doubt the first
suggestion of electricity as a motive
power was laughed at. The man who
first ;ii-auio.i 'bat potential energy
might lie hidden in coal was probably
looked upon as a lunatic, ignorance
is suspicious of all new things.
The water wheel, the windmill the
treadmill, the steam engine and the
dynamo are but devices to harness
and utilize energies that are going to
waste. Science cannot create energy.
It can only focalize ami apply it. It
can turn waste to use.
'lll,'- noise of a great city is only the
waste and overflow of almndaut oner
gtes. The ideal machine is noiseless;
it is owing In Ihe defects in its me
chanism and the taking up of lost uio
tton that some of the energy put into
a machine escapes in the form! of
noise. All sound not harmony marks
waste of energies. To utilize it Is
l he problem.
The details of Mr. Cox’s method have
not been furnished hut it is claimed
by him and his friends that the sys
tern is a perfect success and may ho
used in smalt industrial establishments
where it is designed to furnish power
without any cost whatever.
Scarcely anything is impossible In
this age. There is little lhat is luv
possible. During the past century
many natural forces have been diverted
into useful channels and made to fur
nish power, light and heat. No ra
tional mind can imagine for an In
stant ihat the isissihililies have been
exhausted. On evry hand euergjioe
are going to waste that are yet to be
utilized.
If power is to he derived from tho
the noises of a eity a double purpose
will he served.
V.'e may live to such notiees as tills
become familiar: "For sale —-Choice
building site; boiler factory next
door Nuisances may be turned Into
blessings.
It is to he hoped that the claims
made by Mr Cox am! Ms friends
are not noises that are waste energy.
Mrs. Mollle Allen, of South Fork.
. Ky., says site has prevented attacks
of cholera morbus by taking Cham
berlaln’s stomach and liver tablets
when she felt an attack coming on.
Such attacks are usually caused by
indigestion and these tablets are just
what is needed to clean the stomach
anu ward off the approaching attack
