This Statement Will Interest Scores of

The facts given below are worth a

their physical conduica or too su..

can be thoroughly investigated.
W. E. Woods, retired, residing at
103 President St., Savannah, says: "1
cannot speak too highly of Doan’s
Kidney Pills. They acted promptly and
effectually with me upon a very bad
case of lame back from which I have
been a great sufferer for quite a while.
Thera was a dull heavy pain across
my loins, a never ceasing backache
day and night, but worse at night
when It keeps me awake. At times i
wa3 totally incapacitated for exertion
of any kind, the secretions from the
kidneys were very dark, contained a
sediment and caused me any amount
of trouble, especially at night, when
my rest was much disturbed. I used
any number of remedies but with no
apparent benefit until I obtained
Doan’s Kidney Pills. The results of
their use were that the backache left
me, the kidney secretions cleared up
and did not bother me. I could go to
bed and rest all night, getting up in
the morning rested and I felt better
In every way.”

BYRON WAS BARRED.
Dfta of Westminster Refused to As
cept Statue of Poet.
Many years ago some admirers a
Lord Byron raised a subscription for <
monument to the poet to be placed ii
Westminster abbey. Cbautrey was re
quested to execute it, but on nceoun
of the smallness of the sum subscribed
he declined, and Thorwnldsen wai
then applied- to and cheerfully under

to this difficulty, which proved in: .j

The poet is represented in the statue
of the size of life, seated on a ruin
with his left foot resting on the frag

A Moilel Surveyor.
The Kingman Leader-Courier tells of
an early day county surveyor in King
man county, Kan., who neither pos
sessed any instruments nor could have
used them if he had. Ilis method of
measuring land was to tie his ankles
together with a cord that was Just
long enough to allow him to step one
fifth of a rod each time, and thus hob
bled he would strike out, counting hits
Steps until he had made a sufficient
number to cover the desired distance.
The cord or string used by him la
fastening his legs together, says the
Leader-Courier, was made or raw
hide, so that when he was traveling
through the grass of a morning when
the dew was on it would become wet
and stretch nearly a foot,, and so his
steps were much longer ot a morning
than they were of an evening after the
Sun had dried the whang leather and
shortened it Consequently the man
having his land surveyed in the morn
ing would have much more in his
quarter section than his neighbor who
had his work done in the afternoon
These old surveys and corners then es
tablished cause annoyance even to this

Do Kot Sleep on Tour Left Side.
When a patient complains of a bad
taste in his mouth every morniug on
waking up, says a physician, the first
question I ask him is as to the position
he assumes when going to sleep. An
Immense number of people sleep on
the left side, and this Is the most com
mon cause of the unpleasant taste
which is generally attributed to dys
pepsia. If a meal has been taken with
in two or three hours of going to bed,
to sleep on the left side is to give the
stomach a task which it is difficult in
the extreme to perform. The student
of anatomy knows that all food enters
and leaves the stomach on the right
side, and hence sleeping ou the left
side soon after eating involves a sort
of pumping operation which is any
thing but conducive to sound repose.
Tho action of the heart is also inter
fered with considerably, and the lungs
are unduly compressed. It is probable
that lying on the back is fcfie most nut
ural position, but few- men can rest
easily so, and hence it Is best to culti
vate the habit of sleeping on the right
side. It Is very largely a matter of
habit, and the sooner it is acquired the
better for the sleeper and the worse
for the physician.
Tile Bucket Shop.
The name bucket shop is said to
have originated in Chicago when legit
imate brokers would not handle an or
der for less than 5,000 bushels, and a
lot of places sprang up where men of
small means could speculate on a tri
fling capital, as small as a dollar, and
these speculators were spoken of con
temptuously as buying and selling
wheat by the bucket full. The term
was eventually applied to all broker
age In stocks and grain when the
amounts dealt In were smaller than
legitimate dealers or brokers would
handle and more particularly to places
where there were really no legitimate
transactions, but where the proprietor
and customer simply bet on the mar
ket, the proprietor allowing the cus
tomer to take either end of the bet in
consideration of a commission, which
to reality is his percentage In the game.

Whiskey and Beer Habit
PERMANENTLY CURED BY
“ORRINE,”
A SAFE, SURE AND HARMLESS SPECIFIC
Physicians pronounce drunkenness a disease of the nervous system, creating a morbid
craving for a stimulant. Continued indulgence in whiskey, beer or wine eats away *.;>
stomach lining and stupefies the digeatiYe organs, thus destroying the digestif.u ; utl
ruining the health. No “will power” can heal the inflamed stomach membrane .
“ORRINE” ’. ermanently removes the craving for liquor by acting directly on lie
affected nerves, restoring the stomach and digestive organs to normal conditions, improving
the appetite and r storing the health. No sanitarium treatment necesrnry ; “OR Ll> . ”

steady drunkard tor many years. He now
has no desire for stimulants, his health is

He used only five boxes of ‘ORRINE.’ *’
Mrs. W. L. D., TTelena, Mont., writes: “I
have waited one year brfofe writing you
of the permanent cure of my son. He took
sanitarium treatment, as well as other ad

gave him ‘ORRITTE/ He is now fully re
