EXCUSE GIVEN I
FOR LATE TRAINS'
WHAT OFFICIALS OF THE SOL J* 1
ERN RAILWAY SAY
LATE 1
Macon, Oa , Jan 11. —Recently the
Darmenberg Comapny, of this city,
took up the matter of the late arri
val of mails here, from Nev. York
over the Southern.
The trains from New York City
have been arriving all the way from
two to twenty-four hours late and
tills has not only caused a great in
convenience to the business men xfi
Macon, but. to the public So general.
In anwer to a letter from the Dac
nenberg Company, the postoffice do
partmcr.t of the railway mini servier
at Washington, writes the following:
The Dannenberg Company,
Macon. Oa.
Gents: Replying to your letter ot
the 29th. ultimo to the third assist
ant postmaster general, complaining
regarding the mall service from north
ern and eastern points via the South
ern Railway. I beg to advise you that
the 'been well under
stood at the Bepartment and every
effort has he* made tbst coul.t 1
made to bettM it. The railroad com
pany claims#however that they cat
not overage physictal difficulties and
that th^T’have finally decided to
lengthen out schedules In the hope
that the public would bo better sat
bfled with a slower and more regu
lar schedule, rather tlian the Quick
er Bchehule which the company has
heretofote attempted to make am!
failed.
Very respectfully,
A. M. Grant,
Act. Gen. Supt.
