states that one of the first opinions
expressed By the new secretary of

bor, O. S. Straus, is that the steam
boat sendee may possibly be improv
ed by shifting the inspectors from
one district to anolher, and the ex
periment may be tried
future.

ceived by the inspectors of

some other district to carry on the
duties -of steamboat inspectors, and
that two inspectors from another port
may be transferred to this district to
