GREAT CENTENARY
CELEBRATION
; Macon, Ga., May 11.—The re¬
view of commerce, industry and
| transportation, representing every
line of trade, commerce and trans
: portation in Macon, the third and
last of the mammoth parades staged
in connection with Macon’s centen¬
nial celebration commemorating the
one hundredth anniversary of the
founding of the city, was held this
morning.
The purpose of the trades proces¬
sion was to afford a review of com¬
merce industry and transportation,
so assembled that the spectator
! might grasp at once the exact posi
jtion of Macon in the industrial
! world, and for this reason it was
l the desire of the committe to have
j every business establishment in Ma
| con represented by a creditable float.
^ Historical Pageant,
j The concluding episodes of the
historical pageant depicting Macon
from 1823 to 1923 was given this
afternoon on the big open-air stage
at Central City Park.
The episodes told of the es¬
tablishment of Mercer University in
Macon, the founding of the public
schools; in interlude, Eneas Afri
canus, by Harry Stillwell Edwards:
the establishment of Camp Harris,
the review of the Nattionajl Guard
units of Georgia by former Gover¬
nor Nat E. Harris, who reviewed
them, when they left for the Mexi
Can border; four scenes depicting
tile Wofld War and the finale, clos¬
ing. with the singing of the centen¬
nial song by the children of the pub¬
lic schools.
