KENTUCKY DERBY
TO FETCH WINNER
$64,000 THIS YEAR
(By Associated Press.1
Louisville, May 11,—The forty
ninth renewal of the-Kentucky Der¬
by already has set several new rec¬
ords, although America’s greatest
race is still more than a week away,
The nominees, numbering 145, far ex
ceed all previous totals, the nearest
approach being the 109 mark of .1920.
With a possible of 21 starters, the
race will be worth $64,000 in addition
to the winner’s gold plate valued at
$7,500.
For the first time in its history the
Derby will be run on the second Sat¬
urday of the meet, instead of the
opening day. This change was de ;
cided Preakness, on to another avoid conflict famous with the at j
race,
Pimlico, Maryland.
As for the records which may be
established by the horses themselves
indications are that one of the most |
evenly balanced fields in many year, j j
will face the barrier on the after
noon of May 19. j
The possible $64,000 purse this year
is quite a contrast with that of the
first Derby, in 1875, when Aristides
'romped home ahead of the field to
win $2,850.
Seating arrangements have been
made to lake ca>v of 30,004 perse..s
Stvo r.t: i iom where the Derby can
he seen from terraced steps and
promenades can easily take care of j
50,000. The others will have to take j
pot-luck from the field or roofs of
adjoining stables and buildings.
The Keene Brothers’ Alice Blue
Gown has many followers on the
strength of her two-year-old record
for speed and gameness.
E. K. Bryson’s Setting Sun has
come into recent notice by winning
the Inaugural Handicap at Bowie.
The Montfolt and !>. B. Jones’ Der¬
by entry this year is Dan E. O’Sulli
van, black in color and one of the
most striking in appearance in tile
history of the U1U Derby. E. “• R. ......' Bradley’s
Blossom Time is another filly given
high rating by tlie experts.
Benjamin Block, owner of Morvich,
the 1922 Derby winner, will try to
repeat this year with Aspiration and

chased Aspiration by George Smith, a
Derby winner, out of Inspiration.

Drink Water If
Kidneys Bother
Take a Tablespoonful of Salts
, Back Pains or Bladder is
Irritated
Flush your kidneys by drinking a quart
of water each day, also take salts occa¬
sionally, says a noted authority, who
tells us that too much rich food forms
acids which almost paralyze the kidneys
in their efforts to expel it from the
blood. They become sluggish and
weaken; then you may suffer with a
dull misery in the kidney region, sharp
pains in the back or sick headache, dizzi
ness, your stomach sours, tongue is
coated, , and when the weather is bad
you have rheumatic twinges. The urine
gets cloudy, full of sediment, the chan¬
nels often get sore and irritated, oblig¬
ing you to seek relief two or three
times during the night.
To help neutralize these irritating
acids; to help cleanse the kidneys and
flush off the body’s urinous waste, get
four ounces of Jad Salts from any phar¬
macy here. Take a tablespoonful in a
glass of water before breakfast for a
few days, and your kidneys may then
act fine. This famous salts is made from
the acid of grapes and lemon juice, com¬
bined with lithia, and has been used for
years to help flush and stimulate shig
Hsh kidneys; also to neutralize the
so they n0 , onfrer irritate ,
thus often relieving bladder weakness.
Jad Salts is inexpensive; delightful can offerees- not in
jure and makes a
cent lithia-water drink. Bv all means
have your physician examine your kid
r.eys at least twice a year.
