SECTION LVlll^ . ’ * -A There shall be on Officer known as the Clerk of the Board, whose duty it shall] be to attend every regular and extra meeting or session of the Board—keep (similes, and record regularly and fairly, all the proceedings of the Board, in a fjorik to be kept by him for that purpose —to issue all summonses and processes, and other papers which may be necessary ■to the enforcement of the ordinances, laws and regulations of the Town—all sub poenas to secure the attendant of witnesses —all writs and executions, orother pro cess which may he required under the au thority of the Board or Police Court. He shall issue all licenses to retailers, auc ■toneers and others, and keep a record of every official act he does, and have the charge and custody of all records, books and papers belonging to the President and Board of Commissioners. Tribute of Respect. Oglethorpe city Division No. 294, S. of T. It hath pleased the great Ruler of events to remove fiom our social circle, by the hand of Death, our much beloved brother H. W. Ellis. Our worthy brother is no more. We shall miss him henceforth from the circle of our fellowship and the walks of our daily life. No more will he wield the “gavel in the administration of the affairs of our divis ion. No more will his voice be heard in our council. Death has removed him far from us and the place that once knew him shall know him no more forever. We as a body deem it a privilege to pay this our last tribute of respect to departed worth to express our unfimied regret fur the toss we have sustained, and mingle our sym pathy in common with the friends of the deceased. Be it therefore Resolved, That we mourn the loss of our beloved brother, yet console ourselves with the pleasing reflection that, while in life, he exhibited in all their es fulgence, the principles of our order, and dy ing, left behind him a came unsullied us a ffon of Temperance. Resolved, That in trie death of our high ly esteemed Brother, this Division has lost an efficient mwinher, the Masonic Frater nity one of its most zealous, perservering uud devoted bretliern and the community *o active, industrious and useful citizen. Resolved, That as a token of our respect and es’eem for our departed Brother, we weai the usual badge of mourning for the Sfaee of SO days, with the addition of a iry-colorod badge to ba worn on the left breast. ON WEDNESDAY, the 6ilr day of Au gust next, will be offered for sale in the town ot Oglethorpe, the present terminus of the South-Western Railroad, a number of business lots, and also, lots of a large size, for residences. The Railroad is now corn plate to that place, and tire Cars runs there daily. Oglethorpe during the past year, and up to the present time, has been free from dis ease, from local causes, us much so as any place in the State. This is no exaggerated statement made for the purpose of mislead ing eny one. The fact in relution to the health of tire place, can be establislred by the citizens residing there. It is known that three Banks have already made arrangements for the establishment of Agencies in Oglethorpe, to afford facilities for the purchase of cotton, and others will doubtless do ikewise in time for the business season. TERMS—In consequence of the present I scarcity us money, the cash payment will bo nearly nominal, the remainder in two equal instalments on the first of January next, und the first of January thereafter- Titles will be executed upon the payment of the last instalment. We will re ceive the Cotton of Planters at Oglethorpe, or at any other point on'the South-Western Rail Road, and forward it to oar house in Savannah, making liberal advances on the same, when required, and account for die nett proceeds at Oglethorpe; or we will sell it at Oglethorpe if the owners desire it.
