Competence and Health.
“ Lancaster, Pa , Oct 24, 1P47.
“ My De\r Sik: 1 know you will have the kind*
neps to boar with me in eneronohin# upon your time,
while l acknowledge (in behalf of myself and wife)
the obligations wo feel ourselves under to yon in hav
ing made known certain matters, contained m your
most invaluable 4 Married Woman’s Private Medical
Companion.’ It has becu worth its weight in gold
to me. If I express myself rather warmly, you will
■ee that I ran not do so too warmly, when I inform
you of the extent to w Inch 1 have, through it, been
benefited. 1 will state my situation when I obtained
your book through the merest curiosity ! look upon
it as ono of the most fortuuate events of n?v life. I
hud been married some ten years, and Was lb,* father
of seven children. 1 was long st ra£je'}in,<? unecasintrly,
to the end that I might gain a.moderate competency,
bat the results of my utmost exertions at the end left
me about where I was et the of ench year;
and that only, with the most stinted economy, suffi
cing with barely the necessaries of life Finally, this
constant elTort was heainnini; to nave its effect upon
my health : I felt lesa capable to endure its continu
ance, while 1 felt the necessity of perseverance.
“ This constant, unceasing struggle on my part was
imperative, in consequence of the prostrated condi
tion of my wife (with occasional intermission) lor six
years, much of the time confined to her bed, and of
course incapable of taking the charge and manage
ment of household affairs. Her condition arose from
causes of which 1 was ignorant. Oh! what would
I have given lmd I the six years to live over again !
What would my wife have given to have been spared
the long da\s and still longer nights prostrate on*a
bed of sickness! all of which would have Wen
avoided, had 1 then seen a copy of The M vkiued
Private Medical Compakiom.’”

medical advice! How many suffer from prolapsus
uteri (falling of the womb), or fro mfiuor-alhus (weak

agony for many months preceding confinement! How
many have difficult if not daily emus deliveries, and
whose lives are jeoparded during such time, will find
in its pages the means of prevention, amelioration,
and relief!
