D R J. S. HOUGHTON S
Eulrrfil according to Act of Congrcus in the vear 1851,

ANOTHER SCIENTIFIC WONDER!
Great cute for
Dyspepsia!
Dr. J. Houghton's PEPSIN, the true
Digestive Fluid, or Gastric Juice,
prepared from RENNET, or
the fourth Stomach of the
Ox, after directions
of Baron Liebig,
the great
Physiological Chemist
byj. S. Houghton, M. D. Philadelphia.
Thin i truly a wondrful remedy for Indigestion, dys
pepsia ,jaundice, liver complaint, consultation, and d>
nility, curing after nature’s own metliod, by nalttreeown
agent, the tiastric Juice. QCr Half a teaspoonful of
l’epein, infused in water, will digester dissolve five ponds
of roast beef in about two hours, out of the stomach.
Pepsin is the chief element or great digestive princi
ple of the Gastric juice—the solvent of the food, the
purifying, preserving, and stimulating agent of the stom
ach anti intestines. It is extracted from the digestive
stomach of the Ox. thus forming an artificial digestive
fluid, precisely like the natural gastic juice in its chemi
cal powers, and furnishing a complete and perfect substi
tute for it. lly the aid of this preparation the pains and
evils of indigestion and dyspepsia are removed, just as
they would he by a healthy stomach. It is doing wonders
for dyspeptics, curing cases of debility, emaciation, ner
vous decline and dyspeptjfc consumption, snpp sedlo ho
on the verge of the grave. The scientific upon which it in
bused . is in the highest degree curious and remarkable.
SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE.
Baron Liebig, in his celebrated work on animal Chem
istry, >ay ‘An artificial digestive fluid analogous to the
gastic juice, may be readily prepared from the mucous
membrane of the stomach of the calf in which various ar
ticles of food, as meat and eggs will be softened, changed
and digested, just in the some manner as they would be
in the human stomach/
Call on the agent, and get a descriptive circular,
gratis, giving a large amount of scientific evidence, sim
ilar to the above, together with reports of remarkable
cures, from all parts of the United States.
AS A DYSPESPIA CURER
Dr. llughton's Pepsin has produced the most marvellous
effects, in curing cases of debility, emaciation, nervous
decline, and dyspeptic consumption. It is impossible to
give the details of cases in the limits of this advertise
meat; hut authenticated circumstances have been given
of more than two hundred remarkable cures, in Philadel
fihia, xNew York and Boston alone. These were near
y all desperate cases, and the cures were not only rapid
and wonderful, hut permanent.
ft is a great nervous antidote, ami particularly useful
for tendency to BilliouH disorder, liver complaint, fever
and ague or badly treated fever and ague, and the ev ij
effects of quinine, men ury and other drugs upon tne di.
gestive organs, after a long sickness. Also, for excess \
eating, and the too free use of ardent spirits. It atmo
reconciles health with intemperance.
Dr. Houghton’s l e.win is prepared in powder and in fluid
rom->&MI in perscription vials for the use of I'hysirians.
Private circulars.for the use of Physicians, may he
obtained of Dr. Houghton or his Agents, describing
the whole process of preparation. and giving the authori
ties upon which the claimed of this new remedy are bas
ed. As it is not a secret remedy, no objection can he
raised against its use by Physicians in respectable stand
ing and regular practice. Price, One Dollar per bottle.
Observe This!—Every bottle of the genuine Pep
sin bears the written signature of J. S. Houghton. . 1).,

R. E. SELLERS’ VERMIFUGE.
This Worm Medicine hat nosuperior—

commended by Physicians.
WORMS frequently infest children, ag
gravate all other diseases, and are
capable of producing great disturbances in the system,
and, consequently all medicines givenTo remove them
should be prepared with great care, and of the best ma
terials ; and it is to be feared that many of the worm
medicines in use are totally destitute of these qualities.
The Vermifuge w hich the subscriber offers to the publi

Mr. It. E. Sellers, —It is from a sense of ditty, as well
as"withgreat plcusure, that 1 bear testimony to the vir

single bottle and gave ittothreeof my children, who
had been ill for several w eeks. The oldest was seven
years old. the next four, and the youngest eighteen
months. The first passed fifty-six worms, the second
lorly-seven. and the third a considerable number not
distinctly recollected. Since then they have beendo

Bio Sandy, Jvy. AJav 12, 1848.
MrU E Sellers—Dear sir: Your VertAtfuge produces
such wonderful results, that / think it worth w hile to
give you a few facts about it. A neighbor, Dr Gray,
bought from me otic vial of it, arid gave the contents to
three of hjs children; the fit-t passed 180, the second
153, and the third 70, ranking 403 wprms discharged
by using one viol. Mr Gray immediately bought four
vials more. Mr. J M’Shurlcy also gave the contents
of one vial to three of his children, which brought
from the first 73, from the second 54, and from the third
3j making 156 Worms,bv the use of one vial. I gave
mv own child, aged one year, two teaspnonfuls, which
expelled It, one or which was at least one foot. long.—
Your Vermifuge is considered the best that lias evet
been brought to onr section of country, and so tar as I
know, has never failed.

Mr R E Sellers,— l have the pleasure to inform you
that I have uned iii my practic e your celebrated Vermi

Fahnestock’s, but being Persuaded to try yours, 1 have
found it far Bupperiorin every respect, and can say w ith
out the fear of contradiction, that your Vermifuge pos
sesses more virtue than any 1 ever used, and montcor
diaily recommend it to the attention of the public,
will state a case where I gave one vial of your Yernii
fuge. My brother’s child was pining and wasting to
mere skeleton. In 36 hours after I gave the Vermiluge
the enormous quantity of upwards of six hundred worm
were passed. The child that was given up for lost, is
now as well as any in the neighborhood.

Mr. II E Sellers, —I think it right, for the benefit of
others, to stale some facts in relation to your excellent
Family Medicines.
1 have used your Vermifuge largely in my own family,
one vial frequently answering for expelling large quan

have also used your Liver Pills and Cough Syrup in my
family, and they have, in every instance, produced the
effect desired.
Asl am engaged in merchandising, I am able to state
that I have yet to hear of the first failure where your
medicines have been us ed in my section of the country.
In conclusion, Imay state tliat they are the medicines o(

In this preparation we have all the restorative properties
of the root, concentrated in their utmost strength and
efficacy ; but while Sarsaparilla Hoot forms an impor
tant part of its combinational is, at the same time, com
pound with other vegetable remedies of great power, and
it is in the peculiar combination and scientific manor*
of its preparation, that its remarkable success in the cuer
of disease depends. It acts simultaneously upon the
stomach, the circulation and the bowels; and thus three
processes which are ordinarily the result of three differ
ent kinds of medicine, are earned on at the same time,
through the instrumentality of this one remedial agent,
which gently stimulates while it disinfects uud expels
from the stomach and bowels all that is irritating, and
at the same time restores their vigor and tone. Its great
merit is, that it meets and neutralizes the actve principlt
of disease itself, and when that is gone, the symptom*
necessarily disappear ; and V e have only to point to the
accumulated testimony of multitudes who experienced
its effects, to convince'incredulity itself of its real value.
The Proprietors submit ty the public the following
Certificate from a highly respectable source, of a cur© .
made by using thcirprei aratfoii of Sarsaparilla :
Sew York, Feb. 17,1849.
A/essrs. Sands:—Having suffered manv years with
a disease of my throat, affecting the larynx, during which
time ] was treated by the most distinguished physicians
Furope and the United State*, without receiving any
permanent benefit, but all the time my general hoaltU
and strength declining, and the disease making fearful
• progress : caustic applications were used, and whatever
else was thought most efficient for producing a cure;
but lam confident the deplorable situation 1 was in, the
laryngitis being accompanied with phthisis and great
difficulty in breathing, would soon have terminated my
life, had 1 not obtained relief through the medium of
your lyvaluahle Sarsaparilla. 1 must say genttemeii,
when commenced using the Sarsaparilla J did not
place much confidence in its virtues; and this will not
surprise you, when you are informed 1 had tried more
than fifty different remedies during the past four years,
without any success; but after taking yoi r Sarsaparilla
a f*w weeks. J was obliged at Inst to yield to evidence.
[ This marvellous specific has not only relieved but cured
, me ; and 1 the *efore think it my duty, gentlemen, for
the benefit of suffering humanity, to give you this attes
-1 tation of my cure. ’ Yours, very truly,
D. Parent.
