need of all kinds of provisions and
that the visit of vessels for the work

required.
The government 6f PrdBfch, Whiife
expressing their thanks for the marks
of sympathy which have reached them
from America, informs us that Fort

therefore request that for the purpose
of resculag the pnoplo who afe iii such
deadly peril and threatened with star

States may send as sOotl Ah Possible
the means of transporting them from
tho stricken island. The island of St.

I have directed the departments of
the treasury, of war, and of the navy
to take such measures for the relief
of these stricken people as lies within
the executive discretion, and I earn

be made, to be Immediately available.

The war department was placed in
charge of the supply work and the
navy department was asked for a ship.
Secretary Moody immediately tele

commander of the Dixie, now at New
York, to take on the army supplies
and sail at the earliest possible mo
