PLACED IN JAIL
ESCAPE ARTIST FACES
POSSIBLE TERM IN
ALCATRAZ
ALBANY, Ga., June 18 (TP)—
Georgia's number one escape artist
has returned to the Cracker state
after several weeks vacation from a
Troup county chain gang. Today Le
land Harvey is confined to a small
cell in the basement of the Albany

Local officials are taking no
, chances with Harvey. A guard js sta
tioned outside his cell at all times.
Nevertheless, the chain gang "Hou
dini” accepts all this with a phi
losophical grin. He’s sure another op
portunity to escape will turn up.
often bragged that no
j jail is strong enough to hold him any
length of time. His last escape was
the thirteenth.
Federal officials, however, might
have something to say about Harvey’s
next escape. He will soon be tried in
a federal court for transporting a
stolen car across a state line. If con
victed he might be sent to Alcatraz—
the escape proof federal prison on-Mc-
Neil's island off the coast of Califor
nia.
