POEMS THAT LIVE
In A Garden
I passed by a garden the other day.
And saw lots of kiddies out in play.
There were flow’ers all about the place,
And many a darling little face.
Flowers and kiddles —What a picture
they made.
Compared with them, other pictures
fade.
There were fish swimming in a pool.
And grass that looked so green and
cool,
' A little house that sat way back.
It was really just a little sjjack.
But I said to myself There's happi
ness there,
And joys I know they would share,
For where therg are flow’ers and kid
dies too,
Ibhink there's ’most everything, don’t
you?

Plan K-i, Courtesy Curtis Service Bureau, Clinton, la.
Four-room cottage planned for narrow lot and showing, right above,
exterior of house; left, interior plan; right below, arrangement,of
kitchen. It may be built for from $3,000 to $3,500.
PARTICULARITY well adapted to
the narrow lot is this charming little
cottage which may be built for from
$3,000 to $3,500.
The plan offers rooms of more than
average size and everything to be j
desired in the small home. Its low
roof line insures low construction
costs.
The arrangement of the interior Is
well planned. The house Is entered
from a vestibule in which there is a
closet for wraps. The living room
is 11 feet 2 inches by 19 feet, with
good wall space for furniture. The
back part of the living room is used
as a dining room, as there is no
regular room for dining.
The kitchen is arranged for con
venience, as you can see by the pic
ture, inset. Two bedrooms, both of
fair size and with cross ventilation,
and each having a clothes closet, bath-

I saw some three years ago ‘ Hearts
are trumps. The opening lead is the
Q of spades. South is to make a

declarer accomplish his purpose?
Play as directed. Win the opening
lead with dummy’s K of spades. Even
up declarer’s hand by letting go his
third diamond. Lead the Ace and K
of hearts. On the last trump lead
West may let go one of his spades,
but thereafter he cannot discard from
that suit, or dummy will hold a long
spade, making the grand slam a. gift
to declarer. Lead and ruff dummy’s

Lead a single round of hearts. Dis- .
card from dummy the third card of 1
the minor suit from whch West first
discards. It wil make no difference
in result which card West lets go.
Suppose he lets go a club, as that
happens to he Easts longest suit.
East may as well let go a club also,
to even his minor suits. Lead the
suit from which West discards. Win
with dummy's Ace of clubs. Lead
dummy’s Ace of spades. Declarer
must discard a low card of the suit
from which West has not yet discard
ed. In this case he will not let go
his lowest remaining diamond. For
the eighth trick lead a low spade
from dummy and ruff. East may lec
go a club, retaining his K of that
suit.
Lead two rounds of hearts. Dis
card from dummy its lowest diamond.
East may discard his two lowest dia
monds. At the end of the tenth
round of play each of the four play
ers will hold the three cards shown
in the following diagram.
Now for the double squeeze of de
fenders. Lead declarer’s last heart.
West must discard. He holds only
two suits, and those similar to dum
my's. Dummy will let go a card of
the suit from which West does not
discard. If West lets go his last
spade, dummy retains the thirteener
and lets go its low diamond. If West
lets go one of his diamonds, dummy
lets go its useless spade. West is
helpless. So also is East. Suppose
West holds, and dummy let’s go a
spade. Both of dummy’s diamonds i
become, good if East lets go a card of
that suit. If East keeps his two dia
monds and lets go his club, then de
clarer's club becomes good. The I
grand slam cannot be prevented. 1
room and space for linens, completes

It Is suggested by the builders that
j the exterior trim be cream, the shin
gle roof grass green, and the body
of the house white,
SISTER SHIP TO “MARY”
PLANNED BY BUILDERS
LONDON, June 18 (TP)—Building
plans for a Great sister ship to the
British superliner Queen Mary are on
the ways in London today.
The British chancellor of the ex
chequer, Neville Chamberlain told the
house of commons that Conard-White
Star officials had asked for authority
to enter an agreement for financial
help for the new liner. Chamberlani
said he had no objection to the plans
—“in principal.”
