conference at Detroit in which they
proposed inflation to replace $20,000,-

DING
NEW ORLEANS, La. June 27 (TP)
A brawl that followed a fashionable
wedding at New Orleans today ended
with the death of one man and man
slaughter charged against another.
The victim was 22-year-old Som
mers Carpenter, prominent young
New Orleans society man. His friend,
James Percy, is accused of striking
him during the excimtement.
Carpenter broke his neck as he
plunged to the floor in the kitchen
of a swank New Orleans club.
A score of debutantes, society ma
trons and clubmen witnessed Carpen
ter’s death. They said the fighters
had drunk too much champagne.

PALMER, Mich., June 27 (TP).—
The race for the national grandmoth
er’s championship is on.
Relatives of Mrs. Phillip Liquie of
Palmer challenged Mrs. Carrie De
Weese of Los Angeles for the title.
Mrs. De Weese claimed the honor be
cause of her 34 grandchildren.
A check-up of Mrs. Liqule’s descen
dants is claimed to show 60 grand
children. In fact, one granddaugh
ter says there may be 71.
