Superior Court.
Wrightsville Superior Court last Monday convened and in
clos¬
ed on Thursday Carswell, following.
Gen. R. W. the recently
appointed Judge with of this circuit, was
connected several important
cases which were necessarily contin¬
ued. An adjourned term will be
held on the third Monday in Janua¬
ry next, at which time, we suppose,
these cases and all other continued
matter will be disposed of. Besides
Messrs. A. F. Daley, E. O. Bostick
and II. Currell, of the local bar, we
note among the visiting attorneys
the presence of Solicitor-Genera! J.
K. Hines, and O. H. Rogers, of
Sandersville; J. E. Hightower, Esq.,
and Col. J. M. Stubbs, of Dublin;
Capt, J. II. Polhill, and R. L. Gam¬
ble, Esq., of Louisville; J. II. L. Al¬
len, Esq., of Bartow; Judge R, L.
Rodgers, of Atlanta, and Col, Jose¬
phus Camp, of Swainsboro.
After the court was fully delivered organ¬
ized and the able charge
to the grand jury, Daley, Judge Hon. E. O. Bos¬
tick, Cob A. F. J. II.
Polhili, and Solicitor-General J. K.
Hines, were appointed suitable as resolutions a commit¬
tee to prepare
upon the death of the late Judge of
this circuit, and a recess was then
taken for the balance of the day.
The tribute of respect to the memo
ry of our lamented Judge can be
found in this,issue.
But few cases of importance were
disposed of during the present term.
We anticipate a in lively January court next! at the
adjourned term
Tribute of Respect.
The committee appointed to draft
suitable resolutions commemorate of
the Plon. Herschel V. Johnson, de¬
ceased, the lamented judge of this
c reuit, beg leave to submit the fol¬
lowing report:
VYe feel that we are inadequate to
the task of presenting a tit and prop¬
er memorial of the worth and virtues
of our late distinguished fellow citi¬
zen. Having occupied various po¬
sitions of public trust, he was always
able, faithful and patriotic. As an
advocate he was earnest, brilliant
ind eloquent; as a jurist he was able,
impartial and just, and is a Statesman
he had broad and comprehensive
views. Besides discharging the on¬
erous duties of Judge of this circuit
he did not disdain the office of priest.
He endeavored to minister to the
spiritual wants of the neople and to
elevate their morals. The middle
circuit was his parish, and its people
his flock. In the walks of private
■ life he was just, honest and exem¬
plary religious. He was the kindest
of husbands, the fondest of parents
and the truest of friends. There¬
fore.
Be it Resolved, That in the death
of the Hon. Herschel V. Johnson,
the country has lost a faithful and
patriotic public able servant, a brilliant
lawyer, an and impartial judge,
a profounu Statesman and a public
benefactor.
Resolved further, That there per¬
ished in him the fond husband, the
kind father and the faithful friend.
Resolved further, That this report
be spread on the minutes of this
court, and that a copy thereof be
furnished by the clerk to the family
of the distinguished deceased.

we can but rejoice to know that his
mantle has fallen upon one, who is
worthy in every respect to wear the
same. We commend Gov. Colquitt
for the wise and judicious selection
he has made, and in behalf of John¬

-Gen. Carswell as the
judge of-the Middle Circuit, He is
a gentleman of unquestioned ability, hid'

people are anxious to have him re¬
