Mr. Clinton Wade, of Lnurens coun ty, is visiting his uncle, Mr. M. W. Gross. Mr. John G. Wiley, of Justin, Texas, is visiting relatives in Thomson. Messrs. T. A. Scott, Jr., and Jas. Harrison have returned from llichburg, Ala. Miss Watkins of Louisiana, and Miss Hicks of India, are the guests of Miss Marion Gross. The friends of Mrs. J. P. Morris will be glad to know that she is greatly im proved in health. Miss Marion Gross will entertaiu this evening in honor of Misses Watkins and Hicks. Miss Clyde Hall, of Warrenton.wbo attended the Old Maids Convention has returned to her home. Mrs. Will Hawes has returned to her home in Warrenton after spend ing several days with Mrs. J. T. West. Mr. George P. Brett, of New York Pres. McMillan Book Co. was guest of Hon. Thos. E. Watson Wednesday. The many friends of Mr. Furman Barnes Pearce of Savannah are delight ed to have him with them for several days. Mr. Harry Gross left Wednesday to join Miss Nellie Gross in Macon. They will visit relatives in Dawson during the holidays. Dr. and Mrs. Burkhalter and chil dren arc guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Johnson. They return.to Brunswick the 4lh. Misses Ava West and Emmie Har- Tison have returned from Shorter to «pend the holidays. Mr. Stacey Story has moved his family into the new residence just completed by Mrs. O. S. Lee, on Biacx .Street. 1 Misses Ava West, Marion Gross, Etta Mae and Pallie Burnside and Miss Emmie Harrison will spend the Holi days at home. Mrs. W. E. Markwalter, of Washing ton, Ga., is visiting at the home of Hou. T. E. Watson. Misses Morgan, of Warrenton, visit ed Mrs. J. B. Neal Tuesday and Wed nesday. Mr. Marvin Gross, of Sandersvillo, Ga., is visiting his brother Mr. M. W. Gross. Prof. John Gibson, of Sandersville, Ga., is visiting his brothers Dr. Sterl ing and Cicero Gibson. Miss Susie Leo Overton, who| is teaching at Ellis, in Columbia couuty, is at home to spend the holidays. Miss Josie Geue McGregor, of War renton, visited Mrs. Ira Brinkley this week. Miss Bertio Scott, of Warrenton, visited the family of Sheriff Hawes this week. Mrs. E. C. Hawes, who has been quite sick at the home of Sheriff E.JW. Hawes, wo are glad to report is much improved. Mrs. C. E. Atkinson has been quite sick for several days, but at tills writ ing is improving. Mr. Geo. II. Wagnon, of Morgan county, visited his sister, Mrs. C. E. Atkinson, in Thomson this week. Miss Lizzie May Bolder, who is teaching school in Lincoln county,was in town Tuesday cn route to her home at Cadley. Miss Lizzie TJsry, who is teaching at Fountain, is at home for the Christmas holidays. uj.Miss Edith Curtis returned home this week from a pleasant visit to Miss Annie Lizzie Fortsou, in Wilkes coun ty- Mr. R. H. Pearce, who has been located at Macon, Ga., for severnl months, is at home for the Christmas. Mrs. E. M. Pace, of New York, and Mr. and Mrs. C. IS. Rigby, of Green ville, S. Old Santa has been in evidence at many of the stores, and today there will be much rejoicing amoDg the little ones. Messrs. J. Q. West, Jack Usry, Ed win Smith, Richard Neal, Barney Scott, Tom Lewis, Frank Neal and Horace Boyd have returned home for the Holidays. baptist Church Services 1904. The preaching services at the Bap tist Church for 1904 will be on the First and Third Sundays in each month. There will be one Saturday service at 10 o’clock, on Saturday be fore 1st Sunday in each month. The Sunday School, Baptist Union and prayer meetings will observe the same time. Died on the Train, Mr. It. Gabo Griffin, nged 08 years ( died suddenly on a passenger train of the Georgia Railroad iu Augusta on Wednesday evening of this week. Mr. Griffin lived near Tatliam Miues, in this county, and had gone to Augusta to see Ins sick brother, Mr. Rns Griffin, and had boarded the train in Augusta to return to his home in this county and after being seated in the car a few minutes he died very suddenly. The cause of his death was a rupture of an aneurism of one of the large blood ves sels in the neighborhood of the heart The remains of Mr. Griffin was turn ed to an Undertaker in Augusta and prepared for burial and his remnins were brought to Thomson oil Wednes day night, and carried out to his home near Tatham Mines, where they will he interned in the family burial ground today. Mr. Griffin was one of McDuffie’? most worthy and highly respected citi zens and was one of the South's most devoted aud bmviest soldiers in jthe war between the States. The Progress extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives in Ibis sad death. The Old Maids' Convention. The Old Maids’ Convention, given for the benefit of the Baptist Parson age on last Tuesday evening, was a success iu every sense of the word. The house was taxed to its full capac ity, and there was not a dull moment from the rise of the curtain until the end of the last act. The characters were well cast and the local hits good. Our local talent was assisted by Mrs. W. M. Hawes, Misses Bertio Scott, Flcuda Morgan and Clyde Hall, of Warrenton, all of whom showed special mention for the correct interpretation which their parts received. Mrs. Hawes and Miss Hall were es pecially good as Miss Vanhootenburg and Samapljia Billings. • inurked UiWit L /inil kept up continuous laughter by her bright wit and originality. All of the other characters were good and it is doubtful whether or not they can be improved upon. Hon. M. W. Gross fared rather badly as Tildia Jones. T. L. <B. Club. The T. L. II. Club gave a delightful party at the home of one of its mem bers, Mr. Cosby Winter, on Monday night of this week. The occasion was one of the most en joyable ever given in Thomson. Refreshments, consisting of the most choice fruits, were served, and were highly enjoyed by all present. Tho invited guests present were: Misses Lillian Ramsey, Lula and Louise Willingham, May Boatwright, Mary Belle Fuller, Kathleen Shields, Blossie Scott, and Messrs. Harold Pearce, Frank De Medicis, Charlie Ilawes, Hugh Bussey, Gray Johnson, John Crawford, Jeff Tutt, Geo. Curtis, Ilarry Boatwright and Wallace Neal. No Regular Taper Next Week.
