H. Logan, 3t. Haysvllle, Oa. STATE OF OEOUOI V.-M.D tffij Conn Legal Advertisements THE WEATHER AND THE PEACH CROP The weather we have been hav ing was pleasant—very pleasant. Seems to us that we remember singing about December being ns pleasant as May, but even the imagination of the poet could not conceive of a January such ns we have had. Think of it, ripe straw berries, ripe second crop apples, grain heading out, all here in January. Hut it has its serious side ns well. Wo can’t suppose that such weather will continue, and what will become of the peach crop when the weather turns cold? The buds have already swollen, and a heavy freeze now means the death of the peach . The loss df a peach crop now means more than a million dollars to Georgia, to say nothing of the loss sustained by each individual in missing for a whole summer curliest profit. Let i.s hope tliutohi winter will get busy and send us just enough cold to check the growth, but not des troy our greatest summer luxury— and that million dollars. No. 9302. Everybody said there would be very littlo fertilizers used this yoar. The farmers said so, the merchants said so, and oven t he fertilizer people said so. And all of them meant it at the time, but that wae when cotton was soiling Around ei 6 ht cents. But watch her now I Cottcn is nearing ten centB, and the fertili zer peopleorogetting liftsv. Rail roads that lutd decided to take off freight trains have revoked the orders, and the trains will contin ue, because fertilizers must be moved. The Macon Telegraph •ays: Although the farmers of tins •ection are beiiig importuned not to plant the usual heavy cotton crop, the fertilizer movement oul of Macon is unusually heavy for this time of the year. The move ment has started a little earlier than usual but it is expected t( continue until well in the spring. Traveling fertilizer agents, us well ns the local linns, consider it re markable that the demand should bo so heavy right now. And so you will find it all ovwr the {South. The advance in the price of cotton comes at an opportune time to make another groat crop. Always bear in mind that the world is not hotfCile to the Southern farmer— •he wants him to make a great crop And when it is made the same world wants it jtnt a little below the cost, of production. The advance-in the price of cot ton now means two million bales added to the next crop,—unless the Ruler of the universe decrees otherwise.
