AUGUSTA,
GEORGSA.
April Sth and Oth are the dates for

in the Grand Opera House in Augusta,
■under the auspices of the Augusta

Great Symphony Orchestra, (illy men,
■conducted by Walter Dainrosch, with
at least seven noted artists, will give a
series of three concerts.
The soloixts already engaged are:
Mine. Mary Hi.-.sen (Je Moss, soprano;
Mine. Bara Anderson, priina donna so

One of the most attractive features
of the Festival will be the children's
chorus of several hundred voices, train
ed by I’lof. S. T. Mattie, of the Choral
Society,
That the best class of attractions is
offered, and that in artistic excellence
the Spring Music Festival of 1910 will
surpass that last April the Choral So
ciety leel confident, in making this an
nouncement. This will be one of the
brilliant social events of the year and
it is expected that guests from all parts
of Georgia and Carolina will go to Au
gusta for the occasion.
The concerts will be held on Friday
and Saturday evenings and Saturday
afternoon, April Hth and Oth. The sale
of regular season tickets will begin,
March 22nd, prices *2.60 to $6.00. The
single seat sale will begin March 29th,
prices ?1.00 to *2.60.
Of Mqe. Bara Anderson, whose sing
ing will be a distinct feature of the Fes*
tival, tW&*flfhpeapolis Times says: “Sa_
ar Andefeoa created a furore. Her
voice is of delightful smoothness for
one of Kuebr an unusual range, and
the whole voice is of beautiful quality
tho lower 'tones have depth, richness
a nd warmth of color that a contralto
might" ^nvy, and*with that something
in them that can beat be‘described as
heart quality.”

The Savannah, Augusta and Northern
Railroad was sold at Statesboro last
Tuesday and was bought by W. J. Oliv
er the contractor for $2501000.00. Mr.
Oliver had a claim against the road for
$262,000.00 for construction work.
So far nothing is known as to what
the result will be. It may be that Mr.
Oliver was acting for some other rail
road people, or that the railroad people
came to some agreement in regard to
the road and Oliver bid to protect his
claim. If the latter is true it is very
probable that the S. A. & N. is dead
for a long time. It will perhaps be 30
days before the truth of the matter
is known.
It is certain that a large number of
the big railroad men were taking an
active interest in the sale of the road,
but no bid was put in other than that
of Mr. Oliver.

BOTTLES
Wednesday one of the Thomson mer
chants posted the following notice at
the front of the store: ‘‘Wanted—
1,000 Quart Bottles.” That sounds
like a large number of bottles, but not
for Thomson. In a few minutes a
young man came along, asked the price,
and said 3ie would bring the whole thing
down in few minutes. Another man came
along and said he could furnish half of
them, but didn't want anything said
about it. Another said he didn’t have
any, hut thought the colored man that
worked for him had a couple of hundred
Another said he he did not have any,
but thogght he could buy a large num
ber from his neighbors. Another said
he had some but he was so busy he
could not bring them down until after
DARK. And so it went. There will
be no trouble in getting the thousand
bottles—and perhaps five thousand ir
they were wanted.
DAY
The annual meeting of the Georgia
Educational Association to lie held in
Atlanta April 28th, 29th, 30th next is
expected to surpass in point of interest
and attendance all former meetings of
the Association. 11 is confidently hop
ed by 1 the officers that it will he the
largest and best ever held in the South.
The program just completed is very at
tractive. It is brimful of good things
that cannot fail to enlist the interest
of thd teachers of the state. Many
topics for dLscussierf'wil) be of speeial
interest to the teachersof rural schools.
Reports-from active workers and organ
izers |nd talks along practical lines by
teachers of years of successful experi
ence occupy prominent places upon
the program of the meeting.

EGGS IN GREAT ABUNDANCE.
The hens of McDuffie county are do
ing their full duty these days with the
result that the supply of eggs is unusu
ally large for the season. In fact some
who are in position to know say that
eggs have not been more plentiful in
years than at the present. Still, the
consumption is large and the price re
mains good.
It will be only a short time now be
fore the frying size chicken will make
his appearance, and wp all ho£e they
will be as plentiful as eggs.
As advertised in the Progress Ander
son & Mendel of Savannah, pulled off
their second lot sale in Thomson last
Tuesdas. It was a little more than two
years ago when the first sale was pulled
oif, and at that time thirty-six lots
were left unsold, and these were the
■lots disposed of Tuesday.
The prices paid were not so high as
the previous sale, hut the crowd appear
ed to enjoy the day and a good barbe
cue dinner was served on the grounds
under the management of Col. C. E. j
knox and Mr. John C. Wall.
At this sale Anderson & Mendel dis
posed of all of their holdings. The sec
tion opened up is destined to Eiecome
one of the principal residence sections
of Thomson. Already six or seven
houses have been erected there and
others will be built during the present
year.

REV. THUS. H. TIMMONS CON
DUCTS BAPTIST PRAYERMEETING
Rev. J. S. McLemore being absent
from town Wednesday night the prayer
meeting at the Baptist church was con
ducted by Rev. T. H. Timmons. Mr.
Timmons is very popular with the Bap
tist people of Thomson, and a good
congregation was present and heard an
excellent talk.

The majority of the Christian world
believes in the Bible, and if they ao,
then they must believe all of it, or
none, and the Bible says distinctly
that when the third angel blows his
trumpet, Wormwood (Halley’s comet)
will destroy one-third of what Is on
