What Farmers Should Do—Whal
The Fair Will Do
Kverv farmer in the countv and many in adjoining counties
should exhibit something « line mileli cow, a nin> yearling, a hog
of some good breed, a liot'se, mare or 'volt, sheep, goats, poultry,
dogs aiul any product of your farm that is at all creditable.
If you can not Iiiul .something good enough to exhibit, it should
impress you as you never were impressed before that your system
of farming is all wrong, or you would have something worth show
tug,
rids is an Agricultural Fair, ami its success will depend upon
the farmer. Thomson merchants w ill contribute in every way lhey
can, the Womans’ Club will have a good exhibit, but after all the
success of the fair depends upon the otforts of our farmers,
What The Fair Means To Farmers
li will associate you with the raising ami sale of anything of
value that you mu\ exhibit, and whether you have anything to sell
now or not, it w ill enable yon to sell, am) at a good price, what you
n»a\ care to otter later,
A ’'Blue Kihbou" cow, volt, horse, hog, or uu\ livestock, will
Uvlvl much to the value of such as wins this distinction. To be able
to advertise the fact that what you have to sell was the w inner of
a prize ai the McDutlie Fount y lair, will attract a buyer as not Id ug
over the powtibilUh.-* of this section. Who is ready to help any
public enterprise, who does something himself, therefore, he l>elieves
that other jteople can do something, who always sees something to
ovum instead of swmething to knock. He may not have much
money, but is worth more to a community than a dozen rich
grouebers and calamity howlers.
We know Mr. Kendrick casually. We expect to know him
intimate!v. Once McDuffie County gets a cla-s of farmers who
know bow to farm, and enough of them, she will l>e the banner
agricultural county of the State, for we verily Udieve—that no
county in the State has soil as naturally productive or as easily
cultivat 'd. We generally say nothing when we can not boost, but
il is easy to boost McDuffie -l»ecMuse we believe in tier implicitly.
Il is natural for us to love Iter. la;ca«-c we have, in our limited
wav, tried hard to serve her .and you will find that people oftener
jovc what and whom they have tried to serve -than those who
have served them. A man who has wronged you. even though he
muv have never Ix-en accused of it. is always your enemy. The
sdfMi man cares for few people liecanse In* serves few people. It
would a physical impossibility for him to be a patriot. He is a
‘•knocker" eouldn‘1 b- anything else.
