Young Man Held Under Charge
of Robbing the Postoffice.
Postoffice Inspectors Lake,
Jones and McCrea at an early
hour this morning arrested Mr.
Armond Flowers a young man
employed as clerk in the postof
Sce in this city, under the charge
of robbing the mails. The in¬
spectors last night mailed a de¬
coy letter containing $8 00 in
marked bills and addressed to a
party in Montgomery. It is al
ieged that Flowers opened the
letter and extracted the money.
The inspectors boarded the train
on which the letter left the city
and when the mail was opened in
the mail car the money was found
to have been taken from the let¬
ter, The inspectors returned to
the city and Flowers’ arrest fol¬
lowed. It is alleged that the
marked bills were found in hii
pocket.
Commissioner J. M. Johnson
gave the young man a hearing
and remanded him to Savannah
jail under a $1,500 bond.
Much sympathy is felt for the
young man’s family.—Valdosta

Cause of Lockjaw.
Lockjaw, or tetanus, is caused by a
bacillus or germ which exists plentifully
in street dirt, It is inactive so long as
exposed to the air, but w hen carried be¬
neath the skin, as in the wounds caused
percussion caps or by rusty nails, and
when the air is excluded the germ is
roused to activity and produces the most
poison known. These germs
may be destroyed and all danger of lock¬
jaw avoided by applying Chamberlain’s
Pain Balm freely as soon as the injury is
received. Pain Balm is an antiseptic and
causes cuts, bruises and like injuries to
heal without maturation and iu one
third the time required by the usual
treatment. It is for sale by Lewis Drag

Unwise Suspicion.
We have already expressed the
opinion that there are no Before
Day Clubs in this or any other
state. Averycaieful examina¬
tion of witnesses in the “Before
Day Club” case at Talbotton was
made by Judge Raines, of that
place, op Tuesday, but no evi¬
dence was elicited that supported
the charge that the defendants
were connected with such a club,
or that there was such a club,
and yet a great many people in
and about Talbotton were quite
satisfied they had found a sure
enough Bofore Day Club. The
whites and blacks would get along
a great deal better together if
there was not so much suspicion.
The lawlessness of one or two ne¬
groes in a community is made an
excuse of suspecting that all of
the negroes in that community
are banded together to do an in¬
jury of some sort to the white
people. Asa general thing there
aie always a few hot-headed white
men who want to make a raid on
the negroes, even without provo¬
cation.—S’bvtfhnah News,
Better Than Pills.
The question has been asked—Iu what
way are Chamberlain’s Stomach and
Liver Tablets superior to the ordinary
cathartic and liver pills? Our answer is
—They are easier and more pleasant to
take and their effect is so gentle and so
agreeable that one hardly realizes that it.
is produced by a medicine. Th|n they
not only move the bowels but improve
the appetite and aid the digestion. For

Awful.
He was enjoying an ear of- corn
in the good old-fashioned way.
“You look as if you were try¬
ing to play a flute,’ ’ she remarked.
“Oh, I kon’t know,” he rejoin¬
ed. “It’s more like a corn-et.”
If troubled with a weak digestion try
