Sheriff M. C. Stegall, of Deca¬
tur, was a visitor to Camilla on
last Tuesday and took back to
Bainbridge with him a negro
named John Smith, who had been
picked up for him by Sheriff
Smith a few days ago.
Sheriff F. G. Edwards, of
Dougherty, was here in attend¬
ance at Commissioners Court last
j Tuesday. He has been taking
care of Mitchell’s prisoners for
some time and. of coutse, had a
pretty stiff bill against the coun¬
ty.
Prof. C. L. Brown, who was a
citizen of Mitchell county for a
number of years, but who is now
located in Montgomery, Ala.,
writes that he wants the Enter¬
prise to visit him regularly in his
new home where he is nicely lo¬
cated and pleased with his sur¬
roundings.
The Ladies’ Pleasure Club,
were entertained on Friday after¬
noon of last week at the home of
Mayor Palmer, on Scott street,
by his charming daughter. Miss
Nannie Flake Palmer. The in¬
clement weather and LaGrippe
prevented a number , of members
from attending.
'The book committee from the
Grand Jury report splendid pro¬
gress in their work of revising
the tax returns and say they will
be ready to report results at the
sitting of the Court on Saturday
of next week, Feb., 25th, at which
time the General Presentments
will be received by the court.
Mr. J. B. McCrary, who is an
expert mechanioal and civil en¬
gineer, of Atlanta, has, wo un¬
derstand, been awarded the con¬
tract for Camilla’s Waterworks
and Electric Light plant and that
work is soon to commence on
same, in the meantime the old
electric light plant of the Mitch¬
ell County Fertilizer Co., will be
kept in operation until the new
plant is installed.
Prof. Sam Stricklin, of Ports*
mouth, Ohio, was in Camilla the
first of the week with his trained
dogs and gave an open air per¬
formance Tuesday afternoon.
The performance was a credita¬
ble one, but the special act of the
little dog that climbed to the top
of a forty-five foot ladder and
then jumped off into a canvas
sheet, was the real show.
Atlanta pays $45,000 for the
State Fair next fall. Macon’s
bid amounted to about $18,000.
