The Making of Diamonds.
It is quite possible to manufacture
diamonds. Indeed a famous French¬
man of scieuee, Moissau, made very
large numbers by means of his elec¬
tric furnace. Uis process was to dis¬
solve lumps of sugar in molteu iron,
subjecting the solutlou to enormous
pressure. Lump sugar may be said to

Every One of Them a Bird.
A current newspaper item is as foV
lows: “The wife of a Methodist minis¬
ter in West Virginia has been married
three times. Her maiden name was
Partridge; her first husband was
named Robin, her second Sparrow, and
the present one’s name is Quayle.
There are now two young Robins, one
Sparrow and three little Quayles in the
family. One grandfather was a Swaun,
and another was a Jay, but he’s dead
and now a bird of Paradise. They live
on Hawk avenue, Eagleville, Canary
islands, and the fellow who wrote this
article is a lyre bird aud an interesting
relative of the family.”—St. Louis Re¬
public.
