The state convention will be
held in Atlanta next Tuesday.
Delegates will go from both this
city and Camilla as well as a num*
her of interested ones from the
country.
The Georgia Legislature con¬
venes next Wednesday. The
colons will not wrestle with the
prohibition cause this session.
Any adverse bill introduced will
be placed without ceremony on
the cooling boards.
Col. E. E. Cox of Camilla is
asking to be sent as a delegate to
the National Convention from
this district. Mr. Cox is worthy
the honor. He did spendid work
in the recent election and is capa¬
ble of properly representing his
district at the Denver convention.
Much interest is felt in this
section over the election of Hon.
Frank Park, to the judgship of
the Albany circuit. Judge Park

Americus has a canning plant
that is turning out 40,000 cans
and fruit
p^oyiug 150 people, and every
dollar of receipts except the cost
of cans is new blood for that com¬
munity. The time of the 150
people employed is a net saving
and the material canned is saved,
as it would be wasted. We
long wanted to see an enterprise
of that kind in this colony.

Will every candidate come right
up and make a clean statement
like Anderson Roddenbery of his
campaign expenses? He even
schedules his excess charities and
the expenses at the soda
and cigar stands. We like Mr.
Roddenberry’s statement and,
barring the amount, we
it as a model to otuer
who will have to make
reports to their respective
cutive committees in the future.
The republican national
vention is in session in
and today will nominate
H. Taft for the presidency.
yesterday the wildest
was created by the mention
Roosevelt’s name and the
ment lasted forty-five minutes.
At the end of that time
Jjodge proceeded with his speech
and there is no doubt now
the effort to stampede the
tion to Roosevelt and
him over his avowed intention
not to accept'a third term has
failed and the choice of the presi¬
dent will receive the nomination.
Mr. Roddenberry Spent
$t,240.55.
In accordance with rules of the
executive committee Mr. S. A.
Roddenber.-y has filed with that
body a sworn statement of the ex¬
penditures made by him in his
campaign. JN£r. Roddenberry
made a hard race lasting many
months and his campaign cost
him $2,461.99 more than that of
Mr. Griggs, the successfu’ candi¬
date. The statement is as fol¬
lows :

Good Time leagues.
Prosperity Leagues are being or
ganizedall over thiL country in all
of our larger, citties. Investigations
show that business is rapidly become
ing normal, and that the majority of
factories, railroad shops, general
offices,- wholesale houses, etc., are
working their full quota of men full
time. Within three months this
country will find a greater demand
than ever before for bookkeepers,
stengraphers, and operators, owing
to the business that has been allowed
to accumulate that must be moved
and the new business coming on
caused by the starting of factories,
the marketing of crops, progressive
moves in all industrial lines.
The demand upon the Employment
Bureau of the Athens Business Col¬
lege of Athens, Ga., for bookkeepers
and stenographers has increased over
50 per cent, during the past week;
many excellent positions were offer¬
ed their graduates. This is especial¬
ly encouraging to young people who
have been contemplating entering
school but have hesitated, fearing
that they would not secure a posi¬
tion when their courses were finish¬
ed. If I were a young man or
woman, I would not wait another
day; I would enter school at once,
even if I had to borrow the money
or give the school a note for part of
my tuition. It is the young man or
woman who gets up and does some¬
thing that gets somewhere and
amounts to something this day and
time.
