“Blind Tom” Famous
Negro Musician Dead.
“Blind Tom,” the famous ne¬
gro musician, marvel of three gen¬
erations of playgoers, died in Ho¬
boken, N. J., where he has been
living for years in retirement # aud
subsisting on charito. Thomas
Wiggins is the name given in his
burial certificate, but the surname
was one which the famous pianist
adopted. He was born a slave
near Columbus, Ga , about 1850.
In early childhood, Tom, who
was born entirely bliud, and more
than half idiotic, showed himself
remarkably imitative, frequently
stealing into the house of his mas¬
ter fo reproduce on the piano forty
pieces he had heard played by
others. In 1861 he became so
proficient on the instrument that
he was taken to New York and ex¬
hibited as a phenomenon-and later
was widely heard in the United
States and Europe.

Bulls and Bullets.
The balloon “Boston,” which
made its ascent at Pittsfield,
Mass., landed safely on a moun¬
tain near the Vermout-Hamp
shire boundary line. Charles J.
Glidden, of Boston, the owner of
the balloon, and Lee Stevens, a
New York aeronaut, who was a
passenger, had a very exciting
trip. In addition to being a tar¬
get for rifle bullets during their
flight, Glidden and Stevens land¬
ed in a pasture where a young bull
was confined and were obliged to
run at top speed and scramble
Over a fence.

Thinks It Saved His Life.
Lester M. Nelson, of Naples, Maine,
says in a recent letter :“I haved used
Dr. King's New Discovery many
years, for coughs and colds, and I
think it saved my life. I have found
it a reliable remedy for throat and
lung complaints, and would no more
be without a bottle than I would be
without food.” For nearly forty
years New Discovery has stood at
the head of throat and lung remedies.
As a preventive of pneumonia, and
heeler of weak lungs it has no equal.
