PRESENTMENTS
OF GRAND JURY
Chosen to Serve at October
Term of the Mitchell
Superior Court.
GEORGIA—Mitchell County.
To the Honorable Judge of the
Superior Court of Said County:—
“We, the grand jury selected
and chosen to serve at the Octo¬
ber term of the Mitchell county
Superior Court, beg leave to sub¬
mit the following general present
rnents:
“Justices of the Peace.—The
dockets of the Justices of the
Peace were duly submitted to us,
and the report of our committee
shows them kept in fairly good
condition. They have also checked
up the Treasurer’s books and find
them to be correct and neatly
kept. Treasurer’s and Ordinary’s
reports attached. As time was
too limited to examine the
couuty’s affairs, we recommend
that the County Commisisoners
employ an auditor once a year to
check up the books of the county
officers and present his report to
the next grand jury.
“We recommend that the
County Commissioners see strictly
to the collection of the State and
county taxes, and that all tax fi
fas be placed in the hands of the
sheriff or special collector, and
that said collector be held re¬
sponsible for collection of said
taxes, as we note with regret that
quite a number of fi fas on people
of means are not levied and col¬
lected.
“We recommend that Commis¬
sioners instruct Sheriff to pur¬

“Committee appointed to in¬

farm all housed, and on hand
about 475 bushels of corn, 262
bales of hay, 3,800 bundles of
fodder, 24 hogs, 4 barrels syrup,
40 bushels of potatoes, 1,200
stalks of seed cane, one mare and
colt, two mules—all in good con¬
dition. Also one two-horse
wagon, one one-horse wagon and
other necessary implements for
cultivating a farm. We find only
two paupers on farm, both col¬

repair. We both find room of one
inmate in a filthy condition, and
recommend that this room be im¬
mediately looked after by the
overseer.
“We find ten prisoners in jail,
and premises of jail neatly kept.
“We again recommend to the
County Commissioners to build
an annex to the court house, to
be used as a water closet for ac¬
commodation of jurors and court
attendants: also that carpet on

a new covering be put down ; ulso
that the roof be repaired over
