Boys Wanted.
Boys of spirit, boys of will,
Boys of muscle, brain and power,
Fit to cope with anything —
These are wanted every hour.
Not the weak and whining drones,
That all trouble magnify—
Not the watchword of ‘‘l can’t,”
But the noble one, “ I’il try.”
Do whate’er you have to do
With a true and honest zeal,
Bend your sinews to the task —
Put your shoulders to the wheel.
Though your duty may be hard,
Look not on it as an ill;
If it be an honest task,
Do it with an honest will.
At the anvil, or the farm,
Wheresoever you may be —
From you future efforts, boys,
Comes a nation’s destiny.
Home.
Best of all things to us is home. In
hours of ambition and pleasure we may
sometimes forget its exquisite sweet
ness, but let sickness or sadness come,
and we return to it at once. Let the
hollow hearts that feign a friendship
which they do not feel, stand revealed
before us—let us know, as we all must
at moments, that however important we
may be in our estimation, our places
would be filled at an hour’s notice
should we die to-morrow; then we
whisper to ourselves the magic word
H ome, and are comforted.
“Home, sweet Home!” It does not
matter how humble it is, nor is it less a
home for being a place. It is where
those we love dwell—wherever that
may be —where we are valued for our
selves, and are held in esteem because
of what we are in ourselves and not be
cause of power, or wealth, or what we
can do for other people.
Who would be without a home ? Who
would take the world’s applause and
honor in place of the tenderness of a
few true hearts and the cosy fireside
meetings where the truth may be
spoken without disguise, and envious
carpings are unknown ? In life’s battle
even the hero finds many enemies, and
_mnch_ah] slander, and fletmotin; •
