she has left there, visit the hall of
the Association for Alleviating the
Miseries of the Sencgamhians, and if
sho lias finished np there, look for
her nt the Church Aid Society or at
the Ninth Ward Soup House or the
Home of the One-legged, or nt the
Refuge for Infirm Hogs, or at the
Hospital for the Asthmatic, or at the
St. Polycnrp Orphan Asylum, or at
some of tlieso places. If you get on
her trail you’ll see more paupers and
strong-minded women and under
clothing for the heathen than you
ever saw in the whole course of your
life."
“1 wanted to sell her a cold-lmnd-
led flat-iron, just out. I>o you think
she will buy ono ?”
“Sho will if you can prove tlmt the
ninked cannibals in Scncgumbia are
yearning for cold-bundled llnt-iions.

Georgia’s Credit.
Memphis Avalanche.
Georgia’s credit is high, and the
efforts thus far to sell the new four
per cent broils arc pronounced satis
factory by State Treasurer Rcnfroc.
But it may well he doubted if the
bonds will enter into general circula
tion as currency. Bonds worth . par
or more, and with coupons calling
for four per cent, interest, promptly
mot at maturity, will doubtless be
soon considered too valuable for cur
rency. The propriety of issuing
small bonds in Tennessee, to circu
late as currency, has been discussed
iu some of the public journals ; but
the conditions render the success of
such a scheme impossible. Unlike
Georgia, Tennessee lias no credit in
the world’s market. Our bonds font
with difficulty down in the thirties,
and the interest is not paid.
The Albany Advertiser says the
outlook in Southwest Georgia is very
bright. Planters are utilising day
laborers, and largely adding to their
niulo force. Better yet, the use of
liome-rnmb 1 fertilisers is becoming
the rule instead of exception, und
improved farming implements are in
demand. New fences, new gates,
now bouses and outbuildings attest
the improved condition of the plant
ing interest. Tho acreage promises
to be larger tliuu usual, although the
pride of cotton promises,to be low.
The reason for all this is simple—
this prosperous and productive sec
tion of the Stato raised last year
nearly a full supply of’provisions.
•“All right. You just go down to
the Homo for tho Ono-legged, und
persuado those cripples to cry for
[immovable hair-pins, and she’ll order
’em by the ton."
“Has she any children ?"
“Well. I’m tho ono tlmt appears
Ao lmvo ’em, just now, anyhow.”
“Bocauso I have a gum-top for a
feeding bottle, tlmt is the nicest
thing yon over saw."
“Now,” said Mr. Bird, “I’ll tell
you what you do. You get those
paupers to swear they can’t eat tho
soup they got nt tho soup house with
spoons, they must lmvo’ it from a
1mttie with a rubber nozzle, und Mrs.
Bird*will keep yon so busy supplying
the domain) tlmt you won’t Ijavo a
chance to sleep. You just try it.
Buy up the papers! , Bribe ’em!”
“How’ll 1 know her if I boo her?"
“Why, sho’s a largo woman with a
bent nose, and she talks all the time.
You’ll hoar her talking as soon as
-yon got within a milo of her. She’ll
ask you to subscribe to t he Senegam-
liiun fund and to tho Asthmatic Asy
lum before yon can got your breath.
Probably slxo’ll road yon four or five
letters from reformed cannibals. But
don’t yon mind ’orn. My opinion is
she wrote’em herself."
“It don’t make any difference,
dint you might mention tlmt since
she left homo the baby has lmd four
fits, Johnny has fallen out of tho
jPeav tree and cracked his skull, Marv
; ;M»d Jim both have something like
croup, and Tommy has been bitten
;by Jones’ dog. It won’t excite her.

*‘AH right, then. I’ll go in and put
some fresh sticking plaster on John-

And with the baby singing a vocif
