“where we are at.” So we could
fall off, day or night, in case we see
a collision is imminent. Now, what is
their hope of reward in making this
great sacrifice? Isn’t it the “al
mighty dollar” plus more dollars?-
financial economy.
Results: A collision, lives lost,
many cripples among the passeng rs
—men, women and children. A dis
charged crew for failing to apply this
supplementary rule. The fact is ad
vertised that a certain employe, or em
ployes, was found to be at fault, and
discharged. The panacea is appli d.
and we meet smiling officials spinning
about in their automobiles, in the r
carriages, or addressing some meet
ing—giving advice as to how to do
your duty.
Enough of that. We are inform d
that the charge does not come under
the jurisdiction of the railroad com
missioners; therefore, at last, we ap
peal to you as friend to friend. Come
to our aid. We stand ready and will
ing to furnish proof of our charge.
We are not in politics. We are just
private citizens, appealing for protec
tion. Think it over! Talk it! We
need your aid. Will such a precedent
b‘ allowed to stand? We cannot
think so.
Thanking you in advance for any ■
aid, we are,
Yours truly,

A Berlin paper, speaking of the
protest of a “high standing officer >
in the United States navy against
discrimination against enlisted men
in uniform at dances and in j
theatres,” says that the ground ’
taken by German army and navy \
officers is “more reasonable and '
less sentimental,” and cites the case
of two members of the reserve for, e
who, returning from target practice I
in uniform, went to a dancing saloon,
where they were found dancing by
an officer. “The officer did not make
inquiry as to how many girls had re
fused to dance with the uniformed
men, neither did he look for floor
managers who might have object id ■
to the presence of the soldiers. Ou
the contrary, the men were arrested
and were each sentenced to three
years’ imprisonment.”
An interesting authority says that
in the so-called “glorious” vietoiies
of Caesar, a million men perished on
the field of battle. Napoleon, in the
short space of nine years, was auth
orized to devote to “the glory of
France” 2,103,000 of her sons, main
tains the Memphis News-Scimitar. In
the t n years following the, attack
on Fort Sumter the world destroyed
in war 1,400,000 Jives and $6.00(1.-
000,000 worth of property. Two
thirds of the combined budges of the
various states of Europe are devoted
to the maintenance of armed forces
and to the service of a debt practi
cally the whole of which was incurred
by wars. War expenses in Km■< p■ 1
absorb one-half of nil the wealth cre
ated by productive labor. In (he com- I
paratively insignificant war of Eng
land with the Boers England lost 22.-
250 men and spent $1,100,000,030.
Three hundred and fifty thousand
men were withdrawn by her from pro*
ductive industry to engage in the de

Notice of Advancs of $lO a Share in Price of
the Empire Machine Company’s Stock.
On or before June 30, 1907, the price of this stock will be ad
vanced to $35.00 a share. Only a limited number of shares remain
to be sold at $25.00; at the present rate of sale those may be dis
posed of al any time before June 30th, in which case, the advance
will go into effect immediately. The rapidly-growing demand for
our Machines fully warrants this increase.
Among the Alachines manufactured by this Company is the
Umpire Hydraulic Concrete Block Alachine, which is undoubtedly
the fastest Concrete Alachine on the market. It is made of inde
structible wrought steel, and with one man behind it has a pressure
of three tons. They are no cores, and thus any design or shape
may be made at the operator’s will; this machine turns out four
blocks at one operation, and has a capacity of 2,400 a day.
The Empire, No. 1, a machine for making two blocks at one
operation. This machine is now in use in the largest concrete plants
in the country.
The Empire. No. 2, a small machine for the contractor or home
builder.
The Empire, No. 3, a machine for the large contractor, or block
manufacturer, that desires a machine for rapid work.
The Empire, No. 4. This machine manufactures every size
block used in ordinary building construction; a total of about 40
different sizes. A gable wall can be built with it.
The Empire, No. 5; a face down machine, supitable for use in
small plants, and when stone are made at the site of the building.
Alakes a total of 17 different size concrete blocks.
CEMENT ERICK MACHINES.
We are manufacturing several different style brick machines.
On our Hydraulic Cement I h ick Alachine, 24 brick can be made at
one operation. This maclfine has a capacity of 2,000 brick an
hour.
Cement Brick Alachine, “B.” This machine is operated by
band, ami has a capacity of 6.000 to 8,000 a day.
Do you intend to build a home? If so, stop, think, and ask
yourself this question: Shall I build myself a house of timber,
clay brick, which will be worthless in 40 or 50 years, or shall 1
build it of concrete blocks or cement brick, which will be a credit
to me and a proof of my good judgment for hundreds of years
to come?
AVe undoubtedly have the best Concrete Alachines on the market.
They are fully protected by United States and Foreign Patents, and
we have the whole world as a territory. There is over 300 per
cent profit in their manufacture, consequently, we should be able
to pay the enormous dividends of 50 per cent or more per annum
on investment, ynd feel perfectly safe in saying that every $25.00
invested in this business now will be worth that many hundred
within a year or two.

VARDAMAN ACCEPTS DEBATE
CHALLENGE.
(Special to The Georgian.)
Aleridian, Aliss., June 14. —Govern-
or Vardaman has informed J. O. Low
rey, manager of the Federation of
Labor Fourth of July celebration, in
Aleridian, that he will accept Con
gressman John Sharp Williams’ chal
lenge for a joint debate on that occa
sion.
Both distinguished Mississippian*
are candidates for the United States
senate, and the debate will be of ab
sorbing interest.
Seventy persons have been killed
and over 200 injured, more or less,
in wrecks on tiie Southern Pacific
railroad during the last five months.
Since January 1, twenty-five weeks
have occurred in California on the
Southern Pacific, and it is asserted
that the majority of these were
caused cither by blunders of train
crews, many of them overworked, or
by faults in the equipment of the
rolling stock or track. It is asserted
that of the total number of wrecks
only three were from unavoidable ac
cidents and resulted in but little dam
age and no loss of life. All this time
Harriman has given his almost undi
vided attention to the stock market,
lillman said that “Harriman ought to
be in hell!” The friends of those
who have been murdered on his roads
will probably agree with Tillman.—T.
