Regular Meeting, Columbian Loage, No. 8. Columbus, May 12tb, 1849. Another link in the chain which binds us together -has been broken ! It has pleased Almighty God to remove hence, onr beloved brother, Johs L. Cal bouji, Esq., late of Russell County, Ala., who de parted this life, at his residence at Crawford, on Sat urday the 6th inst., after a lingering illness of sever al mouths. The sloth, bill sure approaches of death, had wam i*eJ our Brother that the time of his departure was Inear at hand, and with that prudence, for which he | was remarkable, he had set his house in order for the t solemn change. The fallibility of man—his liability to err, attaches r to ill alike, and our deceased Brother did not claim an exemption from the imperfections of our nature, but it may truly be said of him, that his objects, pur poses and intentions were correct. That virtue will ever have its reward, has been clearly manifested in the case of onr departed Broth er. The community in which he lived, and in which be was extensively known, extended to him their full £ and repeated confidence, and gave testimony of their i high appreciation of his character, and we know that I lie was a zealous and upright Mason. Be it therefore. Resolved. That in the death of John L. Calhoun, Lsq., this Lodge and the county in which he resided, have lost a valuable member, whose virtues were his own, whose errors attached to all mankind. Resolved, That we sincerely condole with his fam ily and immediate friends in their sad bereavement, and that the memliers of this Lodge, while they mourn for a departed Brother, will ever remember his Hving virtues. Resolved, That the members of this Lodge will wear the usual badge for a departed Brother lor thir ty days, and that this testimony of our respect fur the deceased be published in the city papers.
