Louise Sheridan recognized
as ‘Survivor of the Week'
Banks County Relay for Life leaders have named
Louise Sheridan as the Survivor of the Week.
One week before Christmas in 2002, Louise was
diagnosed with lymphoma. It was by accident that her
cancer was discovered because her daughter decided
to take her to the hospital due to her blood pressure
being extremely high. After a series of tests, it was
determined that she had lymphoma.
The doctor asked Mrs. Sheridan if she wanted to begin
treatments immediately. She decided to go home and
spend Christmas with her family. After the holidays,
she returned to the hospital for the experimental treat
ments, as well as for five months of chemotherapy.
Louise has one daughter, Ann Gordon of Homer; two
sons, Danny of Homer and Tommy of Centerville; six
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She says
when everyone is at her home it’s a “huge crowd” and
they “have a lot of fun.”
Louise was born and raised in Banks County and
married to Charlie Sheridan, also of Banks County, for
51 years. Louise, 80, is the youngest of six children.
She said all of her brothers and sisters are all living and
she is the only one that has had cancer.
As a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, she is
very active in her church where she is a member of
WMU and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She also
takes part in trips with her church, as well as ones that
her bank organizes.
She is a past member of the Homer Square Trackers.
Her hobbies include embroidery, reading, word puzzles
and traveling. On Saturday nights, she and her friends
play a game of Rummikub at her home.
Louise enjoys visiting the Banks County Senior
Citizen’s Center where she is a part of their Relay for

on without wearing her wig. She went on a trip

Life team. As a survivor for four years, she is very
thankful for the American Cancer Society and Relay
for Life for their efforts in fund-raising to find a cure
for cancer.
Anyone who would like to be a part of the Banks
County Relay for Life on May 16-17 at the old high
