JUNIOR DISTRICT OFFICERS
Local 4-H'ers elected
junior district officers
Two local 4-H’ers have been
elected to serve as two of eight
Junior District 4-H Officers for the
2008-2009 year.
Courtney Gailey, daughter
of Michael and Gina Gailey of
Baldwin and Megan Boling, daugh
ter of Greg and Amy Boling of
Homer were elected board mem
bers at the Northeast District 4-H
Project Achievement held February
29-March 2 at Rock Eagle 4-H
Center. They were installed there
and will officially take office in
July.
To qualify to run for Junior District
Officer, a 4-H’er must be in good
standing and a leader in their county
4-H program. They must presently
be in seventh grade. Potential can
didates must also complete an offi
cer application and earn a certain
number of points for 4-H activi-
ties they have completed. These
include offices held, county lead
ership activities, citizenship activi
ties, camps, and County/District
4-H project activities. Approved
candidates present two-minute cam
paign speeches highlighting their
4-H work as well as their campaign
slogan. Courtney’s successful cam
paign was “Take it to the COURT”
and vote Courtney for Northeast
Junior Board. Megan’s successful
campaign was “Make a Strike” vote
Boling for Northeast Junior Board.
As a Junior Board Member,
Courtney and Megan will assist with
Junior/Senior DPA 2009, Cloverleaf
DPA’s and Junior Leadership Camp.
They will also help plan and conduct
the State Junior 4-H Conference.
They will attend board planning
meetings and are required to com
plete certain 4-H projects and con-
tests throughout his/her year in
office.
To prepare for the responsibility of
leading Northeast District 4-H’ers
this year, Courtney and Megan will
attend Georgia 4-H Officer Training
to be held in July at the Burton 4-H
Center on Tybee Island. While there,
the officers will attend workshops
on podium presence, parliamentary
procedure, theme development, ves
pers, officer communication, and
many more topics.

assistant of Banks County said, “We
are extremely proud of Courtney
and Megan and know that they will
represent our county and district
well.”

Schools may submit news and photos
Educators may submit announcements and pho
tos for school-related activities to MainStreet
Newspapers.
Each photo should be clear and in focus, and
include a description of the events happening in the
photo. Photos of poor quality may not be published.
Educators are asked to submit no more than two
quality photos for each event.
Photos should not be attached to a Microsoft Word
document, but attached within an e-mail. When
using a digital camera, please ensure the camera is
set at a medium quality setting to produce the best
quality photos. Photos taken at a low resolution may
not publish well.
The first and last names of those shown in the
photo, including adults, must be submitted. Please
ensure that all names are spelled correctly.
Educators may also submit announcements, such
as special events and learning activities.
Honor rolls and perfect attendance lists may also
be submitted according to the format preferred by
MainStreet Newspapers.
School news will be published according to avail
able space.

NATIONAL COMPETITION
The Banks County FFA livestock judging team recently competed in the National Western Stock
and Rodeo in Denver, Colorado. The team represented Georgia in the contest. The National
Western is considered to be the "Super Bowl” of all livestock shows in the nation and is one of
the oldest and largest. Exhibitors form all over the country come and compete. The students
were able to see the burial place of "Buffalo Bill,” attend a training session at Colorado State
University, and visit Cheyenne, Wyoming while on the trip. The team placed tenth in the nation in

Gainesville State recognizes local students
Gainesville State College has released the names of
students who made the president’s, dean’s and merit lists
for fall semester.
Students who made the president’s list for earning a
4.0 grade point average are: Bryan M. Cobb, Alto, and
Chase A. Rylee, Maysville.
Students who made the dean’s list for earning at least
a 3.5 grade point average on at least 15 semester hours
are: Cameron E. Whitlock and Hannah N. Jordan, Alto;
Devin L. McDuffie, Baldwin; and Anna B. Garrison,
Lula.
Students who made the merit list for earning at least
a 3.5 grade point average on at least 10 semester hours
are: Ashley K. Echols and Justin N. Adamson, Alto;
Beatrice L. Samples, Joshua M. McDonald, Kelli L.
Gunn, Millie L. Hillard and Shane A. Hill, Baldwin;
Amanda N. Logan, Courtney A. Childress, Samantha A.
Fordham and Sarah E. Freeman, Homer.

Homer American Legion Auxiliary offers scholarship
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 215 is offering
a $500 scholarship to any Banks County High School
senior towards a degree in a state of Georgia funded
college.
The applicants will be required to write an essay on
“Freedom, What it Means to Me.” The essay must con-
tain 250 or more words.
Applications can be obtained at the Banks County
High School counselor’s office and must be returned by
March 14.
