MISS ROBERTS, MR. WATERS
Roberts, Waters to wed April 5
Cynthia and Don Daniel and Mitchell and Janell Roberts, all of Homer,
announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter,
Ashley Jennifer Roberts, to William Bradford Waters, son of Gloria and
Macklin Waters and the late Pricilla Waters, all of Carnesville.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Gwendolyn Payne and of
Rachel and James Roberts, Homer.
Miss Roberts is employed by Oak Heritage Nursing Home, Baldwin.
The future groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Telford
Wilbanks and the late Mr. and Mrs. Corbin Waters.
Mr. Waters is employed by Ten Cate, Cornelia.
The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. April 5, 2008, at Damascus Baptist
Church, Homer.
All family and friends are invited to attend.
Prospective adoptive families to meet children
Approximately 20 children, each with the hope of
finding a permanent family, and prospective adoptive
families will have the opportunity to get acquainted at
an adoption party and videoconference on Saturday,
April 5, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Georgia
Mountains Center in Gainesville.
The event will give prospective adoptive parents an
opportunity to meet and interact with the children.
“These events are great because they help prospec
tive adoptive families in attendance understand how
wonderful these children are despite having come
from a situation of abuse, neglect or abandonment,”
said Shamim Neal-Backus, state recruitment man
ager.
“I think that it is difficult sometimes for adults to
imagine bouncing back from unthinkable situations,
but these children are resilient and strong and they
really want to be a part of a loving, stable and perma
nent family,” added Neal-Backus.
There are approximately 2,200 children in Georgia
who are in need of adoptive families. They are
typically eight and older, African American, and/
or a member of a sibling group who will be placed
together.
Families interested in adopting older children or
learning more about the program are encouraged to
attend.

Do Not Call List made permanent
Citizens no longer have to renew
their Do Not Call listing on the Federal
Do Not Call Registry, thanks to federal
legislation recently signed by President
Bush.
The legislation removes the five-year
expiration period, making the Do Not
Call list permanent and allows the
Federal Trade Commission to con
tinue collecting fees from telemarket
ers to access the Do Not Call Registry.
The measure will ensure consumers
are protected from most unwanted
telemarketer calls while ensuring regu
lar funding to help support the list.
When a consumer registers with the
Federal Do Not Call Registry, his/her
telephone number(s) is automatically
included on the Georgia Do Not Call
List. There is no charge to be on the
Federal Registry.
To enroll with the Federal Do Not
Call Registry, a consumer must either
call 1-888-382-1222 from the tele
phone number he/she wishes to regis
ter or enroll online at www.donotcall.
gov.
To report violations, contact the
Federal Communications Commission
at 1-888-225-5322. For additional
information, visit www.psc.state.
