Cross, Tolbert to marry April 19
Charles and Charlene Cross, Mineral Bluff, announce the engagement and
forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Crystal Ann Cross, Auburn, to Jay
Hailey Tolbert, Nicholson, son of Ed and Delia Tolbert, Nicholson.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clore,
Gainesville, and Mr. and Mrs. Wendall Cross, Mineral Bluff.
Miss Cross is a 1998 graduate of Fannin County High School and a
2003 graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor of science in
agricultural engineering. She is employed by Engineering Management
Incorporated, Lawrenceville, designing municipal drinking water and waste
water systems.
The future groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Bealor
Brown, Commerce, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ed Tolbert, Nicholson.
Mr. Tolbert is a 1994 graduate of Jackson County Comprehensive
High School and works in construction and grading with Harris and Son
Construction, Jefferson.
The wedding is planned for noon, April 19, 2008, at Salem No. 2
Missionary Baptist Church, Mineral Bluff.
All family and friends are invited to attend.
Jamie Bowen and Amy

announce the birth of a daughter,
Lolee Jewell Bowen, on March
7, 2008, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center, Gainesville.
She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounc
es, and was 19-1/2 inches long.
She is the sister of the late Katie
Lynne Bowen.
The grandparents are the late
Regina Means, Hull; Frank
Donnelly, Gainesville; and Daniel
Bowen, Maysville.
The great-grandparents are Mary
Hogan and Jack Hogan, South
Jackson, and Melissa Gowder

Gillsville group
planning golf
tournament
Friends of Gillsville, a local
non-profit 501 (c)3 community
organization founded in 2004,
has announced plans for the
third annual Friends of Gillsville
Golf Tournament to be held at
Hammer’s Glen Golf Club in
Homer on Saturday, April 26, at 9
a.m., with a shotgun start.
Player fees are $100 per person
which covers green fees, 1/2 cart,
practice range, awards and box
lunch. Prizes will be awarded for
lowest team score (1st and 2nd
place), longest drive and closest to
pin, plus door prizes.
Funds raised will support the
college scholarship program for
students at Banks County High
School and East Hall High
School.

Heating assistance funds available
The Georgia Department of Human Resources
LIHEAP program, which helps pay heating costs for
gas or electricity, has been extended.
Households that have not already received any kind
of energy assistance since Nov. 1, 2007, may start
calling now.
One-time payments will be made by checks issued
to the home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible
households. Eligibility for the program is based on
the income of everyone living in the home. All eligible
households must be responsible for their home heat
ing bill.
When applying for assistance, persons will be
required to bring for everyone in the home, verifi
cation of all household income received within the
past 30 days (check stubs, public assistance checks,
unemployment checks, etc.), verification of Social
Security numbers for everyone in the home, and the
most recent home heating bill.
All interested applicants are asked to contact Ninth
District Opportunity, Inc. at 706-677-3921.
The agency is asking for no walk-ins.

DOT promotes Banks County resident
The Georgia Department of Transportation has
appointed Cliff Hill as assistant district maintenance
engineer for the 21 counties in Northeast Georgia that
make up DOT District One.
Hill has worked with the DOT since 1978. He began
his career as a temporary maintenance worker and his
entire career has been in the maintenance division. He
has served as an equipment operator, highway main
tenance foreman and most recently as district asphalt
maintenance manager.
In his new position as assistant district maintenance
engineer, Cliff will help supervise over 370 employees
and manage an annual budget of over $14 million. His
responsibilities are for the general maintenance and
resurfacing of over 2,350 center line miles of state routes
and interstates in District One.
“Cliff knows the state routes and interstates of
Northeast Georgia so well; he’s been working on them
for 30 years,” said Russell McMurry of the DOT. “His
strong work ethic, knowledge and skills make him the
right choice for this job. Cliff is an asset to DOT and the
State of Georgia.”
Hill is a native of Banks County. He and his wife
Kathy are the parents of one son, Trae.
Ty Cobb Museum seeking recipes for book
The Ty Cobb Museum, Royston, is collecting
recipes from area residents for the “Cobb Family
Cook Book.”
The museum has received recipes from members
of Ty Cobb’s family, employees of the Ty Cobb
Healthcare Systems, local dignitaries and “Friends
of TCM.”
Those who would like to share their recipes are
asked to deliver them to the museum at Joe A.
Adams Professional Building, 461 Cook Street,
Royston. Recipes may also be mailed to the same
address to the attention of “Cobb Family Cook
Book.”
Museum officials hope to have the cookbook
available to sell at the 10 th anniversary celebration
this summer. Recipes must be received by April 10.
