SUNRISE SERVICE HELD AT MEMORIAL GARDENS
The Rev. Bill Ford, pastor of Homer Presbyterian Church, deliv
ered a stirring message to early-risers who gathered last Sunday
for a sunrise service in the cold at Banks County Memorial
Gardens in Homer. It was still dark when the service began, and
the sun did not begin to dawn until late in the service. Special
music was provided by violinists Jared and Daniel Oren and
Judie Wendt and the Chancel Choir of Homer UMC. Other pas
tors taking part were the Rev. Charles Crabb and the Rev. Jim
McLendon. Following the 45 minute service, worshippers were
invited to attend an Easter breakfast at Homer UMC.
EASTER WORSHIPPERS FEAST EARLY
Worshippers who attended a sunrise service at Banks County
Memorial Gardens last Sunday were treated to a full breakfast
which followed in Don Stewart Hall at Homer United Methodist
Church. Nancy Sullivan again coordinated the popular event
and was assisted by church members.
Singing ahead at
New Salem UMC
New Salem United Methodist
Church, Commerce, will hold a fifth
Sunday evening singing on Sunday
March 30, at 6 p.m.
Sandy Horton with be the guest
praise band leader. Horton has
led praise and worship for several
churches in Northeast Georgia as
well as for the Georgia Foothills
Walk to Emmaus group. He plays
traditional and contemporary
Christian music.
Singing to benefit
Relay for Life
A singing to benefit Relay For
Life will be held Saturday, March
29, at 6 p.m. at the Garrison Civic
Center, Homer.
The Maxwells, Presley Trio and
His Annointed Children will be
singing.
Admission is free, but a love offer
ing will be taken.
All proceeds will benefit Banks
County Relay For Life.

Singing set at Homer
American Legion
Christian Free Worship, Homer,
will hold a singing at the Homer
American Legion Saturday, March
29, at 4 p.m. to raise funds for a new
church building.
Mercy and Grace, Resurrections,
Double Portion, Blood Bought and
others will be singing.
Concessions, including hot dogs
and cakes, will be sold.
Everyone is welcome.
Chickenque set at
New Salem UMC
On Saturday, April 5, New
Salem United Methodist Church,
Commerce, will hold a chickenque.
Meals will be served from noon
to 6 p.m. Meals will be eat in or
take out. Tickets are $6 and are
available through church members
or by calling the church office at
706-335-4401 and leaving a mes
sage.
The meal includes half of a fresh
hickory smoked chicken, chips, slaw
and a slice of homemade pound
cake.
“Come enjoy a great meal and fun
and fellowship with members of the
community,” organizers said.
Maysville Jubilee
to be held Friday
Maysville United Methodist
Church, Maysville, will hold a
“Fourth Friday Night Jubilee” on
March 28 at 7 p.m.
The jubilee is “for all pickers,
singers and folks who enjoy good
gospel music,” organizers said. “We
encourage all pickers and singers to
join us,” they added.
There is no admission fee and
food is available.
The jubilee will be held at the
church’s annex, also called
Strickland Hall, located at 8595
Hwy. 98, south of Maysville at the
intersection of spur 82 and Hwy.
98.

Revival services
ongoing at Silver
Shoals Baptist
Silver Shoals Baptist Church is
holding its 2008 spring revival ser
vices though Friday, March 28.
Services will begin at 7 p.m.,
through Friday. Special singing
will be provided each night.
Chris York will be the guest
speaker.

God raising funds
for church building
Freedom Church of God,
Commerce, will sell hot dogs at
Quality Foods Friday, March 28,
and Saturday, March 29, beginning
at 10 a.m.
The church will sell barbecue
plates at Midway Farm Supply on
Saturday, March 29, beginning at
10 a.m.
A benefit singing will be held
Saturday, April 5, beginning at 5
p.m.
The featured singers will be The
Rogers Family. Hot dogs and ham
burgers will be sold following the
singing.

Two area churches are joining
hands in a partnership with the Food
Bank of Northeast Georgia for a
food distribution on Wednesdays,
from 6-8 p.m.

Methodist Episcopal Church will
help distribute food at Warren
Chapel’s fellowship hall, located at
468 Homer Road, Commerce.

will help support MDA clinics at
Emory University and Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta, send chil
dren to MDA summer camps in
Rutledge, assist with the purchase
of wheelchairs and leg braces and
fund research.
