Traffic stop results in seized cash

A Banks County Sheriff’s Office
deputy, making a routine traffic
stop on I-85 last week, discovered
a large amount of cash in a hidden
compartment of the vehicle.
Inside the dash compartment was
$130,490 which was wrapped in
plastic, sheriff Charles Chapman
said.
Banks County’s K-9 officer
“hit” on the compartment and the
money.
Arrested was Jose Julian Arias,
19, 55 Trailer Drive, Lexington,
N.C.
The sheriff said it is a violation
of the law to have a hidden com
partment in a vehicle as well. Arias
was charged with driving without
a license and having a false com
partment in his vehicle.
Children playing near church graveyard
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office
received a complaint of small chil
dren playing around church property
and a graveyard on Deercrest Road
in Alto Saturday.
The caller was also concerned
with the fact the children appeared
to have BB guns.
A deputy responded to the scene
and talked with the grandfather of
the juveniles who told them not to
play there. The BB guns were not
functional, according to the incident
report.
The BCSO also responded to the

•fraud at Zaxby’s.
•suspicious persons at
McDonalds.

Ridgeway Road, Commerce,
address.
•burglar alarm at a Model A Drive,
Maysville, residence which proved
to be false.

near Gordon Road.

Road near Hwy. 441.
•burglary at an Apple Pie Ridge
Road, Alto, address.
•suspicious vehicle on Hwy. 51

Sheriff's office responds to domestic incidents
A physical dispute at a Jack Drive, Lula, residence
was one of several domestic-related incidents responded
to by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office during the past
week.
The BCSO also responded to the following:
•dispute at a Loggins Trail, Commerce, residence.
•verbal dispute at a Chambers Road residence.
•assisted a woman in picking up her child’s WIC enve
lope from her in-laws’ residence on Jack Drive.
•dispute at a Mountain Creek Drive, Maysville, resi
dence.
•a woman reported her husband assaulted her at Best
Western on Eisenhower Drive.
•dispute at a San Andres Lane, Homer, residence.
•phone harassment at a Yonah-Homer Road resi
dence.
•dispute at a Water Plant Road residence.
