Joe Verner Vaughn, 78, of Homer,
died Saturday,
May 24, 2008, at
BJC Hospital in
Commerce.
He was the son
of the late Dock
and Mae Coker
Vaughn and was
retired from
Garrison Lumber

Louise Arnold Fincannon, 76, of
Homer, died Saturday, May 24, 2008,
at her residence following an extend

Runell Anderson
Runell Nelms Anderson, 76, of Alto,
died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her resi
dence, following an extended illness.
She was born in Jackson County on
June 12, 1931, and was the daughter
of the late Floyd J. and Eddie Hogan
McDougald. She was a member of the
White Creek Baptist Church and was a
retired seamstress. Mrs. Anderson was
preceded in death by her husband,
J.D. Anderson; sons, David and Dean
Nelms; sister, Ruth Sosebee; brothers,
Buddy and Paul J. McDougald; and a
grandson, Chris Irvin.
Survivors include daughters, Annette
Irvin, Toccoa, and Penny Smith,
Murrayville; sons, Billy McDougald,
Cornelia, Dale Nelms, Cleveland, and
Darrell Nelms, Alto; sisters, Lunette
Stover and Dora Mae Murphy, both
of Gainesville, Shirley McKenney,
Duluth; brothers, Duck McDougald,
Cleveland, Curtis McDougald, Social
Circle, and Floyd J. McDougald Jr.,
Cleveland; grandchildren, Morgan
Smith, Avery Smith, Chris Nelms and
Jerri Mason; three great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
May 27, at White Creek Baptist Church
with the Revs. Anthony Shore, Mark
Gunter and Paul Flynn officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Fannie Arrowood
Fannie Bell Arrowood, 77, of Alto,
died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at a pri
vate healthcare facility, following an
extended illness.
She was born in Rabun County on
January 27, 1930, the daughter of the
late Alex and Reba Rogers Welborn.
She attended Baldwin Congregational
Holiness Church and had worked as
a spinner in various textile mills. Mrs.
Arrowood was preceded in death by
her husband, Arling A. Arrowood;
and sisters, Allene Hensley and Jewell
Hensley.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda
Sue Fairclough, Alto; sons, Arthur
James Arrowood, Gainesville, Alfred
Junior Arrowood and Wayne Lee
Arrowood, both of Alto; brothers,
Alex Welborn Jr., Keith Welborn and
James Welborn, all of Rabun County;
a sister, Geneva Greene, Dillard; and 9
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
May 24, in the chapel of McGahee-
Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home
with the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell, Tim
Beasley and Trent Campbell officiat
ing. Burial was at Yonah Memorial

William Brown
William Jesse Brown, 57, of
Commerce, died Wednesday, May 21,
2008, at his residence, following an
extended illness.
Born in Jackson
County, he was the
son of the late Sam
and Grace Parker
Brown. He worked
at CertainTeed
Corporation of
Athens for 30
years. Mr. Brown
made a lot of
friends that he
considered family,
loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife, Angela
Donnette Brown, Commerce; sons
and daughters-in-law, Josh and Tiffany
Brown, Alto, Nicholas and Kristy
Sorrow, Pendergrass; daughter and
son-in-law, Nicole and Chad Bridges,

Loyd West
Loyd Nelson West, 91, of Demorest,
died Saturday, May 24,
medical center.
He was born in
Gwinnett County on
November 28, 1916, the
son of the late E. Webb and Florence
Puckett West. He was a member of
Mount Carmel Baptist Church, was
retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, where
he worked for several years, was for
merly employed with Edward Flor
Saddle Tree Manufacturing Company
for several years, and also worked in
a CCC Camp. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Annie Mullinax
West; brother, Eston West; sisters,
Zora Knight and Irene Sexton. Mr.
West was a veteran, having served in
the United States Army during World
War II, where he served as a military
policeman.
Survivors include daughters and
son-in-law, Joyce and Leon London
and Sylvia Woodall, all of Cornelia;
sisters, Ruth Kelley, Lithia Springs,
and Dorothy Wilson, Powder
Springs; sister-in-law, Leota Mullinax,
Clarkesville; seven grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and four great-
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, May 29, at 2 p.m., at Whitfield
Funeral Home, North Chapel, with
the Revs. Billy Burrell and Michael
Smith officiating. Burial will be in the
Clarkesville Cemetery. The family will
receive friends Wednesday, May 28,
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the
funeral home.

Helen Rogers
Helen Elizabeth Browning Rogers,
65, of Oakwood, died Tuesday, May 20,
2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center, following a courageous battle
with cancer.
Born in Hall County, she was the
daughter of the late Cary Jacob and
Hattie Stover Browning. She gradu
ated East Hall High School in 1961,
and was employed with Atlas Food
Systems for many years. She was
Baptist.
Survivors include her husband,
Rex Rogers, Oakwood; daughter and
son-in-law, Tammy and Keith Wallace,
Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-
law, Danny and Tina Rogers, Flowery
Branch, and Rocky and Leann Rogers,
Gainesville; grandchildren, Maranda
(Bruce) Hoover, Tyler Rogers, Ashley
Rogers and Jordan Rogers, all of
Flowery Branch, Braden Rogers,
Walker Rogers, Cade Rogers and
Anna Elizabeth Rogers, Christina
Wallace, all of Gainesville, Sharee
Allen, Lula, Jennifer (Nick) Rice and

'Bobby' Hembree
Robert Edward “Bobby” Hembree, 71,
of Fayetteville, formerly of Nicholson,
died Monday, May 19, 2008, at his resi
dence, following an extended illness.
Survivors include his wife, Ann
Smith Hembree; daughters, Sherrie
Sutton, Karen Hembree and Wendy
Dowell; a son, Robert N. Hembree;
eight grandchildren; six brothers; and
seven sisters.
No public funeral services are
planned at this time.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the American Cancer

Peggy Irvin
Peggy Joan Irvin, 79, of Cornelia,
died Friday, May 23, 2008, at a local
care facility.
She was born on August 5, 1928, in
White County, the daughter of the late
Lat and Harriett Houston Vandiver.
She was a member of the Cornelia
First Baptist Church and was a home
maker.
Survivors include a daughter and
son-in-law, Janice and James Norton,
Hull; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis
and Gail Irvin, Homer; sister, Vivian
Smith, Cleveland; brother, Dan
Vandiver, Lula; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
May 25, at Whitfield Funeral Home
with Pastor Randy Crowe officiat
ing. Burial was in Gateway Memorial
Gardens in Cleveland.

Gladys Crow
Gladys Waldrup Crow, 89, of
Cornelia, died Thursday, May 22, 2008,
at a local care facility.
She was born on August 4, 1918, in
Banks County, the daughter of the late
Augustine and Sarah Worley Waldrup.
She was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Cornelia and was retired
from Ethicon, Inc., with several years
of service. Mrs. Crow was preceded in
death by her husband, Edgar N. Crow
Sr.; three sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Sarah and Mark Gardner,
Mt. Airy, Dorothy and Tim Lewis,
Salem, S.C., Shelia Crow, Baldwin;
sons and daughter-in-law, Edgar N.
Crow Jr., Maysville, James Milton
and Judy Crow, Mt. Airy; sister, Ellen
Bramblett, Cornelia; five grandchil
dren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.

Minnie Mize
Minnie Lucille Seagraves Mize, 88,
of Gainesville, died Wednesday, May
21, 2008, at the Oaks at Limestone,
following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, she was
the daughter of the late Love Thirsten
and Lucy Burroughs Seagraves. She
was retired from New Holland Mill
and was a member of Corinth Baptist
Church. Mrs. Mize was preceded in
death by her husband, Frank Mize;
grandson, Christopher Mize; one sis
ter; and five brothers.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Leroy
Brown, Gainesville, Louise and Doug
Helton, Lula, and Laura and Robert
Rider, Hartwell; sons and daughters-in-

Pauline Aycock
Pauline Carter Aycock, 92, of
Cornelia, died Wednesday, May 21,
2008.
She was born on May 29, 1915, in
Woodville, the daughter of the late
Richard and Dinkie Martin Carter
and was Baptist. Mrs. Aycock was pre
ceded in death by her husband, James
Horace Aycock; sisters, Carrie Brooks
and Evie Smith; brothers, Bill, Albert,
James and Reese Carter; and step
sons, Charles and Bill Aycock. She
was a beloved mother, grandmother,
and a cherished friend to many, loved
ones stated.
Survivors include a daughter,
Claudette Aycock, Cornelia; step
daughter, Mayzell Mauldin, Baldwin;
son and daughter-in-law, Wesley
“Buddy” and Gloria Griffith, Crawford;
step-sons and daughters-in-law,

Jerry Myers
Jerry Thomas Myers, 57, of
Cleveland, died Monday, May 26,
2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville, following an
extended illness.
He was born on June 6, 1950, the
son of Hazel Cook Myers Chastain
of Cleveland and the late Bobby E.
Myers Sr.. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Betty Jean Myers; grand
son, Jerry Myers; sister, Catherine
Ojalia; and brothers-in-law, Johnny
Dubois and Johnny Black. Mr. Myers
was a veteran, having served in the
United States Army with honor dur
ing the Vietnam Conflict, receiving
the Bronze Service Star and Vietnam
Campaign Medal.
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include a daughter, Tammy Myers,
Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law,
Tommy Myers, Hardwick, James and
Nancy Myers, Gainesville, Jason
and Leslie Myers, Lula, Ronnie and
Crystal Myers; a special friend,
Shannon George, Villa Rica; grandchil
dren, Noah Myers, Justin, Stephanie
and Amberleigh Myers, Jennifer,

Owen Patton
Owen Patton, 84, of Gainesville,
died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his resi
dence following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County, he was the
son of the late Marshall and Flora
Terrell Patton and had lived in Hall
County for the remainder of his life.
He owned and operated Patton and
Patton Survey Company and served
as the Hall County
Surveyor for 40 years.
He was a charter
member of Lakewood
Baptist Church, where
he served as a deacon. He coached
little league baseball and was dedicat
ed to the young boys he coached. He
was also a member of the Gainesville
Masonic Lodge. Mr. Patton was a vet
eran, having served in the United
States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include daughters, Diann
Patton, Gainesville; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Clifton and Ann Patton and
Chris and Jill Patton, all of Gainesville;
son, Jeff Patton, Las Vegas, Nev.;
grandsons and spouses, Shane and
Kara Clark, Chris and Melanie Clark,
Troy and Kara Patton, Drew Patton,
all of Gainesville; granddaughters
and spouse, Tisha and Eddie Taylor,
Oakwood, Candace Clark, Nashville,
Tenn., Misty Patton, Taylor Patton and
Tess Patton, all of Gainesville, Megan
Patton, Las Vegas, Nev,; nine great
grandchildren; and a host of other
family and friends.

Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at
Lakewood Baptist Church. Burial will
be in Alta Vista Cemetery. The fam

home Wednesday, May 28, from 7 to
9 p.m.

Raymond Lomax
Raymond Franklin Lomax, 79, of
Gillsville, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008,
at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville, following an extended
illness.
He was a native of Hall County and
the son of the late Cleve and Melrose
Holland Lomax. He was a member of
the Clemmons Chapel
United Methodist
Church and was pre
ceded in death by
his wife, Catherine
Elizabeth Hicks Lomax; a son, Benny
Lomax; granddaughters, Lori and
Donna Lisa Lomax; brothers, Cliff
Lomax, Harmon Lomax and Bob
Lomax; sister, Doris Couch; and son-
in-law, Danny Roper.
Survivors include sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Billy Ray Lomax Jr. and
Terry Lomax and J.C. Lomax, all of
Gillsville; Bobbie and Debbie Lomax,
