BCHS sets dress code guidelines
County Extension Service receives grant to help 4-H
RECEIVES FUNDS
Banks County extension coordinator Bob Waldorf and Banks
County 4-H agent Gina Gailey receive a S15,000 check from
Jackson EHC Foundation board member Shade Storey and
Jackson EHC Jefferson district manager Don Stewart that they
will add to donated funds from Banks County to purchase a
mini-bus to carry children to and from 4-H events.
PALS planned
for parents of
8- 12 th graders
A new program, Parents Advancing
Leopard Success (PALS) is being
introduced for parents of Banks
County students in eighth through
12 th grade.
Meetings will be held to answer
questions about high school,
transition from middle to high
school, Internet safety, academic
requirements, teenage drug/alcohol
use, college, scholarships, level
of parent involvement, upcoming
mandatory testing (GHSGT, EOCT),
teenage sex, anger management and
other topics.
A meeting will be held from 6-7:30
p.m. in the BCHS cafeteria. The
schedule is as follows: Tuesday,
September 30: Tuesday, November
18; Tuesday, January 27; Monday,
March 30; and Tuesday, April 28.
The agenda includes: Supper,
academic presentation/discussion,
social presentation/discussion,
questions/answers/discussion,
school personnel on-hand,
administrator, counselor, teachers
and graduation coach.
Possible door prizes include: Gas
cards, rent/mortgage supplements,
groceries and restaurant/retail gift
cards.

KBMS back-
to-school
meeting set
Kings Bridge Middle School
will hold its Eagles First Flight for
upcoming sixth graders Tuesday,
Aug. 5, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Sixth grade students will get
acquainted with their new teach
ers, class schedules and tour of the
school. Buses will run and lunch
will be provided.
Kings Bridge Middle School will
be holding open house Tuesday,
Aug. 5, from 4-6 p.m. Students will
have the opportunity to meet their
teachers and obtain class sched

FFA alumni
meeting set
The Banks County FFA Alumni
will meet on Tuesday, August 5,
beginning at 7 p.m. at the Banks
County Ag Barn.
All parents of FFA members, past
FFA members, and anyone else inter
ested in FFA are invited to attend.

High school
diploma
class offered
A class is being offered in Stephens
County that will give people a sec
ond chance to get a high school
diploma.
The class is taught from 3:30
to 10:15 p.m. Mondays through
Thursdays at the Mountain
Education Center, located at 191
Old Big A School Road in Toccoa.

The class is free for full-time
students, is individualized and self-
paced, has no failing grades, offers
joint enrollment with technical
schools and colleges and allows
students to work a full time job dur
ing the day.

In order to ensure and promote
student safety and to foster school
pride, the following dress code shall
be followed at Banks County High
School, school officials said:
•See-through or mesh clothing is not
permitted.
•Halter-tops, tank tops, muscle tops,
and spaghetti strap tops are not
permitted.
•Sleeveless T-shirts may not be worn.
Low necklines are inappropriate.
•Garments that expose the midriff
when both arms are at the side are
not permitted.
•Shorts, skirts, dress, and splits in
skirts or dresses shall be no more
than three inches above the knee
when standing upright. Skirts with
leggings must also be no more than
three inches above the knee.
•House slippers or bedroom slippers
are not allowed.
•Clothing which displays emblems
or advertises alcohol, drugs, sex,
tobacco, or other abusive substances;
has obscene, vulgar or suggestive
writing, pictures or emblems are
prohibited.
•All pants/shorts/skirts must be worn
at the waistline.
•Hats, caps, bandanas, scarves,
sunglasses, non-prescription glasses,
headbands or other headgear may
not be worn on campus during the
regular school day.
•Pants/shorts/skirts/dresses that have
holes in them above the knee are not
permitted.
•Any object or ornament that is
capable of being used as a weapon
including, but not limited to, heavy
chains or jewelry with spikes or can
be used as drug paraphernalia is not
permitted.
•Topcoats, dusters, trench coats and/
or heavy coats shall not be worn
inside the building since the school
is climate controlled.
•Blankets and ponchos are not
permitted.
The administration in grades K-12
has the authority to determine inap
propriate dress or dress that presents
a safety hazard. Penalties will be
assigned as per the discipline code.
Piercings will be addressed on an
individual basis by the administra
tion.
Guitars must be checked in at the
office. Skateboards are not permit
ted.
The UGA Cooperative Extension
of Banks County has been award
ed a $15,000 grant by the Jackson
EMC Foundation to help purchase
a 14-passenger mini-bus that would
be used to transport small groups
of 4-H Club members to program
activities and education events.
A program of the Extension
System, 4-H provide educational
and developmental opportunities to
about 650 young people in the coun
ty, including many activities that
involve transportation to 4-H events,
local community service projects
and gatherings at the five 4-H camps
throughout the state. While school
buses can be used for large group
outings, they are not practical or
economical for the number of small
group trips to 4-H events.
Funded by Jackson EMC mem
bers’ contributions to the Operation
Round Up program, the Foundation
has awarded more than $2.6 million
to date through 226 grants to organi
zations and 102 grants to individu
als. Operation Round Up rounds up
electric bills of participating mem
bers to the next dollar amount, using
the spare change to do charitable
work.
Any individual or charitable
organization in the ten counties
served by Jackson EMC (Clarke,
Banks, Barrow, Franklin, Gwinnett,
Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison
and Oglethorpe) may apply for
Foundation funding by completing
a grant application, available online

Applicants need not be a member of
Jackson EMC.
