In the game against Union Coun
ty, BCHS suffered a 7-5 defeat. The
Lady Leopards held a 5-1 lead go
ing into the sixth inning.
“This one really stung,” Lord
said. “We had the game in hand
for the first five inning. Union is a
sound offensive team and they start
ing finding some holds scoring six
runs in the sixth inning. We battled
to get the tying run in scoring posi
tion in the seventh inning. It was an
exciting game, but a tough one not
to win.”
Cook, Denton and Baird all had
two hits for BCHS. Cook also had
two RBI and a double. Laura Rose
Pickens also delivered a double
while Porter had a single and an
RBI. The Lady Leopards are sched
uled to host North Oconee County
today (Thursday) at 5:55 p.m.

S trong play by the offensive
line, huge offensive statis
tics and enough defense
at the right times helped propel the
Banks County High School football
team into the win column last Friday
night.
The Leopards (1-2 overall, 1-1
in Region 8-AA) outscored visit
ing Dawson County 48-27 earning a
much-needed win in the third week
of the 2008 season.
A look at the final stat sheet sees
some impressive numbers, especially
on the offensive side of the football
for BCHS. The team compiled 551
yards of offense, including 432 yards
on the ground. Senior Justin Beasley
did his usual damage with 274 yards
rushing while teammate Demetric
Dempson added 122.
“We played as hard as we have all
year,” said head coach Blair Arm
strong. “We played at a different
level. We talked all week about giv
ing more effort and not getting down
if something went bad. I thought we
played hard the whole game.”
BCHS jumped out to a quick 14-0
lead on a 37-yard touchdown run by
Dempson and a 15-yard pass from
Chris Porter to Kane Duncan.
Dawson County responded, how
ever, and would tie the score with
7:52 left in the first half.
The Leopards would answer with
a 78-yard scoring drive which was
capped on a 2-yard run by Dempson
with 2:33 left before halftime.
The turning point in the game came
right before the first half ended when
BCHS found the endzone again. With
only two seconds left on the clock,
Porter connected with Duncan on a
6-yard completion for a score.
In the first half, the Leopards to
taled 295 yards of offense.
Leading the way up front for BCHS
were linemen Jeff Smith, Tyler Hu
sky, Justin Bowen, Nathan Davis,
Zach Dale and Lyn Hester.
Armstrong and offensive coordina
tor Chuck Hudson both had praise for
the big men up front.
“Coach Hudson said it was prob
ably the best offensive production
we’ve had since we’ve been here,”
Armstrong said. “It was best block
ing we’ve had. We are very excited

about the effort we had from the line
men.”
While Dawson County was able to
compiled some yardage of its own,
Armstrong said the overall defensive
effort by his team was better.
“We changed some personnel and
worked on some technique issues,”
the coach said. “We still have a cou
ple of things to work on.”
Through three games this season,
several BCHS players have com
piled some impressive numbers on
the field. Beasley has already com
piled 614 yards on the ground with
six touchdowns. He led the Northeast
Georgia area prior to last Friday’s
game.
Dempson has compiled 227 yards
rushing with two scores.
Porter has thrown for 383 yards
proving that the Leopards are not one
dimensional with four touchdowns.
Duncan has been his favorite target
with 10 catches for 183 yards and
four touchdowns. Smith also has four
catches for 61 yards.
Defensively, Billy Pinson has 20
tackles with Husky compiling 18
and Hester making 17 with two sack-
es. Duncan also has 15 tackles with
one intersection.
On special teams, Hester is 8-of-9
on extra point attempts.
