'Jesus Wept/ John 11:35
I would suppose
that the first time
you read this verse it
touched your heart as
it did mine. To think
of the love and com
passion that Jesus
had not only for His
friend Lazarus, but
also for the people
around Him is over
whelming. Sadly, many people
cannot see or seem to experi
ence this love.
I think there may be a cou
ple of reasons that Jesus wept
here in this smallest of verses.
So many back then, as today,
were either unable or unwill
ing to comprehend or embrace
this love.
Now that so many have con
formed to the world's insis
tence that we be “politically
correct,” we have distorted
truth and can no longer call sin
sin. (Romans 12:2, John 8:32)
Could the days of ignoring
facts for the sake of freebies
have caught up with us?
The disciples in Matthew
24:1-2 got so caught up in
the beauty and brightness of
the temple of their day that
they forgot how temporal
things really are and that one
day the monuments of man
will become rubble. Has the
glare of this world blinded us
to the reality that we, yes we
ourselves, are the temples that
God dwells in? (1 Corinthians
3:16-17, 6:19)
The promise of
2 Chronicles 7:14
still rings true today.
Beloved, we are in
what I firmly believe
is a crossroads in our
history. I believe that
unless we make some
serious steps towards
repentance the next
thing we will feel is
the defibrillator.
Let us not be guilty as Ahab
was of rejecting the counsel of
the Micaiah’s of our day though
they may be few. (1 Kings 22)
I have been to over 14 nations
in the last few years now and
I can tell you that I am thank
ful to be an American, but that
fact does not negate truth! The
truth is that we have lost much
of what made us great.
Yes, Jesus wept, and I think
He still weeps! “In Him was
life, and that life was the light
of men. The light shines in the
darkness, but the darkness has
not understood it.” (John 1:4,
5) I hope the flicker of light that
still comes from the “Church”
in America will again shine
forth brightly.
