Ruth said he was proud of the team after
the guys gave everything the night before
in the game against Rabun.
Banks trailed in the first quarter as
Jackson County slipped by 9-7. The
Leopards responded in the second quarter
with 14 points and took the lead 21-18.
Playing strong in the third quarter, Banks
maintained their lead as Jackson County
picked up nine points, 38-27.
During the final eight minutes, Jackson
County made five three pointers and drew
within winning distance of the Leopards.
According to Ruth, the boys responded
by coming out hard and refused to fold
under the pressure for the win. Banks
drew five charges during the game.
Ruth said that in the final quarter of
the game he was worried a little bit after
Jackson County stepped up and scored 23
points.
“They got within three points in the last
two minutes, but we stepped up,” said
Ruth. “Ryan Griffin stepped up to the
free throw line and shot eight in the final
quarter.”
Griffin went six for eight from the line
in the fourth quarter.
According to Ruth, the win was a big
confidence booster for the team.
C. Armour and Griffin led the team
scoring 14 points apiece. Hudgins sunk
three three-pointers and totaled 11 points.
Duncan and Lovelace each scored six
points, while Daniel rounded out the scor
ing putting up four points.
Union County
“We just came out on fire,” Ruth said.
Union County made the trip to Homer,
Tuesday night as part of the crossover
games between the sub-regions for
8-AA.
After the 60-37 loss, Union probably
wished they had stayed home. Banks out-
scored Union the entire game, and came
out to a forceful 18-2 lead after the first
quarter.
The Leopards made 16 offensive
rebounds, 19 defensive rebounds and
forced 26 turnovers. According to Ruth,
the team played well and its press was
working perfectly.
Ruth’s new offense that he began this
year is starting to show options for the
team, evident by Tuesday’s game.
Going into the second eight minutes
with an 18-2 lead, Banks County did not
show any signs of slowing, putting up 13
more points to extend their lead to a com
manding 31-11.
Union County started a rally in the third
quarter, adding 14 points, but it was too
little too late as the Leopards tallied 16
going 47-25. Focusing their aggression
around the goal, Banks held Union to
only 12 points and sailed to a 60-37 win.
C. Armour once again led the Leopards
with 18 points. Duncan controlled the
team’s fastbreak and played a great game
as the second leading scorer with 15
points. Daniel rounded out the top three
scorers with 14 points.
Hudgins added five points to the effort
followed by Redmon and Griffin with
three apiece. Griffin also lent five assists.
Lovelace dropped in two points.

Leopards finished just behind first place
Chestatee. Flowery Branch finished
third.

ishes: Mason Patton in the 102-pound

JV BASKETBALL
JV teams defeat Jackson County
BY JUSTIN POOLE
The Banks County Junior Varsity bas
ketball team hosted Jackson County on
Saturday. Both the girls and boys team
won.
The next game for the JV Leopards is
Dec. 16, against Rabun County at 4 p.m.
The JV Lady Leopards will restart after
the holiday break against union County
on Jan. 9.
Girls
The JV Lady Leopard defeated Jackson
County’s JV Lady Panthers 37-20.
Banks County took an early lead and
held Jackson to only 10 points per half.
Banks led 13-10 at the half. Assistant
coach Megan Williams said that an ex
cellent defense, especially from fresh
man Sarah O’Kelly, contributed to the
Banks County win.
Both teams picked up six points in the
third quarter, but in the final quarter, the
ladies trumped Jackson County scoring
18 points and holding Jackson to four
points.
“We attribute our win to an excellent
defense, few turnovers, and rebounds,”
said Williams.
Leading the offense for the JV Ladies
was Deasha Beasley with nine points.
Ashley Morris and Madison Franklin
followed, scoring eight points apiece.
Boys
The JV Leopards followed the girls’
example and took a 49-26 win over Jack-
son County.
Jumping out to a 13-4 lead after the
first quarter, the boys outscored Jackson
County every quarter.
Banks was up 25-12 at the half and
moved out to a commanding advantage
of 35-18 in the third quarter.
Jackson County picked up eight points
in the fourth quarter, but it was nowhere
near enough as Banks scored 14 points
and secured a 49-26 victory.
