NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS
REGARDING TEMPORARY
2009 AD VALOREM MOTOR
VEHICLE TAX
The fees you pay each year to purchase a
license plate or decal and register your motor
vehicle are actually ad valorem taxes. These
Taxes are determined by the value of the motor
vehicle, as determined by the Commissioner of the
Georgia Department of Revenue, multiplied by
the millage rate. The amount of tax you have just
paid is a temporary amount, however, because the
millage rate for 2008 (which is used to determine
2009 motor vehicle taxes) has not yet been set by
the Banks County Board of Education. When the
Banks County Board of Education sets its millage
rate, the final amount of your 2009 motor vehicle
tax will be determined.
When the millage rate is set, you may be
entitled to a refund. You will not be required to
pay any additional amount. Consequently, please
watch for news in the local media that the final
millage rate for 2008 has been set. No written
notices will be mailed to you. In order to obtain
your refund (if you are entitled to a refund), you
must return to the Office of the Banks County Tax
Commissioner (in the Banks County Courthouse)
in person to claim your refund.
If you have any questions, please call the
Office of the Banks County Tax Commissioner at
(706) 677-6204.
