Banks County deputy injured in crash sheriff's office reports arrests

A Banks County deputy was
injured in a wreck Friday night
that was caused by a woman
charged with driving under the
influence of intoxicants.
A Banks County patrol unit
driven by Deputy Hunter Whit
lock was traveling south bound
on Hwy. 15/Hwy. 441 just
north of the bridge at Interstate
85 when he was involved in an
accident. Whitlock was on his
way to answer an accident call
at Murphy USA.
The oncoming vehicle, a
2002 Cadillac, driven by There
sa Alford, 50, Jackson County,
struck the deputy’s unit head-on
on the driver's side of the patrol
unit. Alford was charged with
DUI and failure to yield right
of way.
Deputy Whitlock was in
the left lane driving around
the posted speed limit, reports
Sheriff Charles Chapman. As
Whitlock approached the north
end of the bridge and had the
green light, he saw an oncom
ing vehicle traveling north that
began to turn left into his lane.
Deputy Whitlock stated that
he was only about three car
lengths from the oncoming ve
hicle when it attempted to turn
in front of him. Whitlock stated
he veered to the right to try to
avoid the oncoming vehicle, but
was unable to do so.
Upon impact, the vehicle
driven by Alford completely

DEPUTY INJURED IN WRECK
A Banks County deputy was injured in a wreck Friday night that was caused
by a woman charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants. Deputy
Hunter Whitlock was traveling south bound on Hwy. 15/Hwy. 441 just north of
the bridge at Interstate 85 when he was involved in an accident.

Domestic disputes

Arrests made in rash of
Banks County burglaries
Two Hall County brothers
have been arrested in connec
tion with a rash of burglaries in
Banks County.
Banks County Sheriff
Charles Chapman said Tues
day that arrest warrants were
issued for two men in con
nection with five burglaries in
Banks County on Wednesday,
Dec. 3.
The two men charged are
identified as Bradley Steven
Emory, 22, and James Robert
Emory, 25, both of 150 Clarks
Bridge Road, Gainesville.
The men both face five fel
ony charges in Banks County,
Chapman said on Tuesday,
and they are facing numerous
burglary charges in other coun
ties.
Chapman said that his office
was called out to four residen
tial burglaries on Wednesday,
Dec. 3, within a three-hour
period. Two of the burglar
ies were on Garrison Road
off Highway 51 South, while
the others were on Apple Pie
Ridge Road, Alto.

“He stated he felt O.K., just
sore from the hard jolt he re
ceived in the wreck,” Chapman
said on Monday.
Alford was booked into the
Banks County jail on the above
charges and later released on
bond.
Chapman said the Banks
County patrol unit was a 2005
Ford Crown Victoria that was in
excellent condition.
“We are very thankful that
no one was seriously injured,”
Chapman added.
The Banks County Sheriffs
Office responded to the follow
ing domestic-related disputes
during the past week:

way 441 South, Commerce.

only one of the houses had any
thing taken and it was a camera
and some jewelry. Chapman
said.
One of the houses on Apple
Pie Ridge Road had some
items taken.
Chapman said his officers
were also called to another
residence on Dooley Drive,
Alto, for the report of another
burglary on Wednesday.
“During this day, from some
of these residences in the north
end of the county we had a TV,
several guns, jewelry and other
items taken,” Chapman said.
Banks County deputies
worked late on Monday re
trieving items taken, Chapman
said. Televisions, several guns,
cameras, video equipment and
money were recovered, Chap
man said.
“It appears that these brothers
may be responsible for burglar
ies in nine different counties,”
Chapman said on Monday.
The investigation is continu
ing.
