\ Railroad Sonic. — ,:v t,IA Ls p * shimas.
No more we sing a* they sang ot old.
To the tones of lute ;*r*i ‘’ re,
For lo ! w r e live in an Iron Age—
!n the age ot Steam and Fire !
The worjd is too busy for dreaming,
And htuh grown too wise for War,
So, to-day. lor the glory of Science,
L, : us sing of the Railway Car ‘
The golden chariots of undent Kings
YVould dazzle the wondering eye.
And the heads ol a million slaves might how
As the flittering toy rolled by ;
But this if* the Car of the People,
And before it shall bow all Kings—
Be they warned when they hear the shrieking
Os the Dragon with iron wings !
The blood stained Car of the Juggernaut.
O'er millions of necks hath rolled,
Audits Pi iests have cried ch a triumph as ours
The world shah never behold !
But wo ! when this harnessed Dragon
Comes vomiting i moke and tire,
For the Priests, with their Car and Idols,
Shall p rish beneath his ire !
And wo to all who uphold the wrong—
Love darkness rather than light—
For Seienee hath opened a luoad high way
For Knowledge, and Truth, and Right.
Ami he sends forth his ear to gather
The people ot many binds,
Until the uttermost nations
Are grasping each others hands !
And thus when the people, ns one, are joined,
And each to his felloe is known,
Invention, and Art, and skill hall work
At the bidding of Science alone.
And who can tell of the greatness
The world may hope tor tin n !
For the faith that movetli mountains
Hath entered the souls ol men !
Then sing no more, as tli y ang of old.
To the tones of the lute and lyre,
But soundthe praise of the Iron Age—
O’ the age of Steam and Fire.
And sing to the glory ot Science—
Exult in the downfall of war—
And shout for the fiery Dragon,
As he Hies with the Railway Car !
