W. of llattcras, ‘ the A., exchanged signals with tho Steamship J&mea Ad ger, bound north. Capt. Ludlow, will please accept our thanks, as also tho Purser of tho ship, for New York papers of Saturday in advance of the mail. The 31 illiary Pageant. At an early hour yestorday morning tbe roll of the “spirit-stirring drum,” tho shrill uotos of . tho fife, the clash of cymbals, and the clangor , of brass, announced tho recurrence of sorao un usual occasion; the streets wore onlivened with . the brilliant uniforms, and waving plumes of tho various Volunteer Companies of whom our 1 city ij so justly proud, an 1 dense throngs of living, moving humanity crowded the streets, 1 the whole city having turnod out en masse to ; witness tho annual parade which is always ob- ! served with such spirit and ardor. We doubt i if any city in the Uuiun can boast a fiuer look- i ing, better drilled, and uiorohaudsomely equip ped body of men, than the long array of citi ien soldiery drawn up yesterday on the B*/, under command of Col. A. It. Lawton, and staff, j The Oglothorpo Infantry, Capt. Miller, wore escorted by the Republican Blues from thoir ! quarters at the Marshall House, to their place ! iu the lino formed ou tho Bay, and they pre sented a truly martial, and gallant appearance. After tho Battalion had formed on the Bay, it was briofliy inspected by Col. Lawton, and tbe ‘ ceremony of presenting a Flag to tho Dekalb Riflemen,then took place in front of the Custom House. The Flag was tbe gift and the handiwork i ot the Gorman Ladies of our city, undisasplen- Uid and tasteful one. The material is of green silk with gold fringe. On oue side are embroid ered thirteen stars, and tho arms of our State upon the revorso, the name of tho Corps, en circled by a wreath of laurel and oak. Tho staff is surmounted by a gilt Eagle with outspread wings. Tho Flog as a whole is one of the most elegant aud appropriate onos which wo havo ever soon, aud it does great credit to the skill and taste of tho ladies from whose bands it came. We havo not been able to procure tho addrossos mado nt the presentation, in time for our to day’s issue, but shall endoavorto publish them to-morrow, ns also to give some account of tho part borno in tho ceremony by the young ladies appointed by the donors, to assist iu re presenting them on the occasion. This ceremony being over the Battalion wore marched to tbe Park, whore a salute of thirty one gun* was fired in honor of tho day by tho Chatham Artillery, Capt. Gillie. The order of march was as follows: tho Georgia Hussars Capt. Lamar; Chatham Artillery, Capt. Gallik; Phoenix Riflemen, Capt. Mills; Oglethorpe Infantry, Capt. Miller; Republican Blues, Capt. Anderson; Savannah Volunteer Guards, Capt. Screven; Gormau Volunteors Capt. Stbi- ; LIN; DoKalb, Riflemen, Capt. Ganaiil. After a brief respite at tho Park, the llatta 1 lion was again formed, marched through tho i principal streets back to the Bay, and was dis missed. The Oglethorpe Infantry an 1 the Commis sioned Officers of tho various Companies wore handsomely entertained at Armory Hall, as tho guests of tho Chatham Artillery. ’lho DcKulb Riflomcn after parade partook of tho hospitalities us Capt. Ganaiil, returned to Monument Square, and after firing a salute, ! wero dismissed, to ro-assembled in tho evening : ut Armory Ilail. The Phcenix Riflemen upon their return from j the Bark, fired a salute and after dismission partook of refreshments provided fur tho corps j by Privates Fort and Long. The I‘io Nie at the Oglethorpe Barracks was very numerously attended—the festivities were ‘ prolonged to a late hour, and passed off very | pleasantly to all the participants. A Complimentary Ball was nlso given in the evening, at Armory Hall, by the Dekalb Rifle men, to tho German Ladies. We aro informed | the Ball was a very agreeable one, and that a very largo number of ladies were present. Tho finale of the day's ceremonies was the departure | of the Oglethorpe Infantry for Augusta, via. j Charleston. They were escorted to the Charles ton Boat by tho Republican Blues, and taken leavo of by tho Blues on tho wharf. We hope the Infantry may have a pleasant return trip home, and that having once found their way to our city they will at some future timo pay us another visit; we feel assured that we can promiso them a hearty welcome, should they ever return, from their brother soldiers of whose hospitality they have partaken. We are very sorry to send forth so meagre an account of this, the finest display ever socn in our city ; we have made every effort to procuro tho desired data, but have not been able to got ! fill tbe requisites fur a minulo necount, and wo I hope the gallant companies of our city will ex j cuso any omissions or errors which may havo occurred, in our report. This magnificent corps commanded by Capt. j Lam vk made their appoaranee yesterday iu a i new and splendid Cap, more in unison with j their rich uniforms, aud more appropriate than the caps which they have hitherto worn. Tho Hussars were tho only mounted troops on pa rade yosterduy, and attracted much attention by their fine appearance. Both men and steeds gave evidence of fine training, and wo should not fear t* pul them against any moun ted troops whatever, conscious as wc arc, that they might enter tho lists of comparison, with tho utmost confidence. The days of Chivalry and old romance, rose vividly beforeonrmind's eye, as they lead the van in the spleudid spec tacle of yesterday. Tiie Irlttli .1 a *|e r Grr *• an, Made au excursion trip to tho country yestor day, and wo learn passed a delightful day as the Guests of Mr. Skinner, who resides some ten miles from tho city, near the Central Rail- j road. The Greens returned hut evening | and from ull accounts that wo have had, were i most handsomely entertained, aud most agree ably employed during tho day. Wo missed them from the Battalion ere it was fairly drawn up in line, but wore pleased to learn that they were getting compensation fur the pleasures which they left behind them. .Savauiauli River unit Harbor. A meeting will bo held to-morrow at 12 M., in tho Exchange, to confer upon tho propriety of tho city's making au appropriation (in her corporate capacity,) to aid in removing tbe ob structions in our river and Harbor. No project bettor deserves the attention and the aid of our city than this: we hope tho meet ing will he well attended, and that positive and beneficial results will grow cut of it. PEN AND SCISSORS. Supremo Court at Washington, it is said, has recently reversed tho decisions of Judge Story and of the Massachusetts Supreme Court, on the question of tho liabilities of ship owers in cases of collision. Tho old doctrine was, that underwriters were “liable to repay to tho insured damages paid by biin to the owners of another vessel and cargo, suffered it; a col lision occasioned by tho negligence of the mas ter or mariners of the vessel insured.” Judge Curtis has recently delivered tho opinion of the Supremo Court of the United States, that underwriters Arc not thus liable. The annual meeting of the subscribers to the stock of tho Savannah aud Albany Rail Road Company was held, agreeably to tho constitu tion, at tho Exchange, Savannah, on Monday 2d May 1853. R. Wavne Mayor of tho city was called to tho chair, and Wm. Duncan, was appointed Secretary. Twenty thousand four hundred and sixty four shares, were represented—being a majority of the stock subscribed. Col. Tift from Albany, being present was called on and gave his views, in reference to the enterprise and tho intcrost felt in it by the poo ple of the South-west. After some remarks by Dr. Scrkven, the fol lowing resolution was offered by him. Resolved, That tho mooting adjourn to Wed nesday 25th inst. nt 12 M., to receive tho re port of tho Engineer, and to consider tho pro priety of altering and amending tho constitution, and Rye-Laws of the Company, which boing seconded by 11.
