OPELIKA, ALA, t WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28, 187A. OPELIKA DIRECTORY. Millinery. OPELIKA DEPARTMENT U. M. GUAY, EDITOR. OussBTAf Ala., Jan. 1*3, 1874. 3fr. Gray : Some of us hare read your paper about raising meat, and are anxious to do that thing, nod think it can be done. Please tell us about the Honey Pea. Farmed. reply. In the article alluded to by Farmer, we wrote “Harvey Pea,” and not Honey, though tho printer made it so, and we are not sure but the name given by mistake io more in keeping with its qualities than that of Harvey. It is a round, smooth, white pea, with n yellow cast, very heavy, will weigh, possibly (10 to 65 pounds per bushel, and in our opinion, contains more nutriment than any pea grown, save, per haps, the ground pen-, and can bo grown with less trouble than that excellent feed for hogs. Any land which will produoe 1 000 pounds cotton per acre, will make, with oorn cultivation, 100 bushels. It Hhould l>o cut and fed to stock when the pods are full, or turn iu your hogs and they will eat ntnlk as well as fruit. All auiiiiHlfl are exceedingly fond of it when green or cured as hay. This is difficult; on account of tho.si/.e of tho stalk and limb3, it is apt to mould. Gather seed while tho hull is a little tough, they shat ter badly when dry. Wanted. A master to teach some rude people— men, women and boys—that it is a horrid bore to have a No. 12 boot down to the daintiest No. l£ bootie, oomo champing grinding, stamping or pit-a-pattering in church, just when the text is being read, or when the minister is iu the midst of an interesting Rubject. A string or some such thing to reach, undui. mud, tho door of the same eburt i. • *i each seat, hj that cold people can shut door after the aisle races are over. We dou’t want a loungers’ brigade at tho church door and steps, no matter how good-looking. We are liberal. Co lumbus has that fixture, and she can keep it. Quarterly meeting of the M. E. Church South for this district is going ou. llev. Mr. McCarty, Presiding Elder, preached yesterday morniug and night. We loam that the Western road has still further roduced the wages of em ployees. They have a splendid corps in nil departments. We hope things will right up and enable them to go up ou all hands. A. O. Harwell having withdrawn from the firm of Harwell, Gibson & Co., has removed to Chambers street. His friends and patrons would do well to call on him in his now quarters, and examine stock before buying elsewhere. Prices at panic rates. jal8 su&wedtf A V.
