The County.
From tho highways nud byways come
up tho hum of industry, and rigid atten
tion to tho oxpectod crop. Tho people
for ouco soom a uuit upon the necessity
of a full crop of gruin by July, to bridge
over the interim to September, when the
full corn in tho ear shall drive from a
famine stricken laud the gaunt wolf of
waut. They, we, all of oh, have been
taught a lesson which wo trust will de
scend an heritage from siro to son, incul
cating economy,labor and solf-sustonauce,
as the first rules for success in almost ev
ery occupation of life, and especially
applicable to the tiller of the soil, whose
profits come by degroos. From all direc
tions, east, north, south and west, old
lands aro carpet ted with rye, wheat and
oats, aud exceedingly promising. While
*ot lauds aro being cleared up, ditches
dug, fences reuowed, the sod turned
preparatory for tho joyous by and by,
when tho glad green blade shall be re
leased its prison homes and batho its ten
der branches in tho gonial sunshine and
showers of blessed spring time. Wo
have faith, strong, undying faith in our
people. Wo have known theni all our
life, and have with them, e’re now sub
mitted to evils of greater magnitude than
the errors of a few years Uavo brought
upon us, and look trustingly forward to
that brighter aud better day to dawn
when poaco and plenty shall reign once
agaiu throughout a land disrobed of her
beauteous attire by tho folly of her chil
dren.
Brevities.
—S iturday aud Sunday were as lovely
as could be, and ns much so in darkness
and di*nth.
Our churches were tilled with charm-
iug people **n Sunday.
—The swelling buds warn us that
spriDg, “goutlo spring,” is upon us.
—Much improvement in walks and
promenades has been made during the
winter ; yet moro trees are a necessity.
—I’eSplo jndge of our rofluement by
the appearance of the homos of oar dead.
Wo would be thought lightly of if some
stranger were to inspect it.
