We were informed by a leading lawyer
of counsel of one of the partial,
Major B. J. Moaas had commsneed suit
against Mr. W. H. Young for $100,000
for libel. It ia baaed upon the publica
tion of a late pamphlet, in which Mr.
Young charges Major Moms with unpro

Borne of thyee pamphlets were distribu

The suit promises to be a long and ex

Last night after tha band had discoursed
several fine airs, and the Columbus
Guards were formed in line ia the arm
ory, Iieut. O. B. Grimm stopped forward
and briefly stated that the ofloeis resolved
a year ago to award that member who se
cured the largest number of aeoeptable
applications, a gold badge. It now gave
him pleesure to present the badge to
private J. W. Long.
The latter as briefly returned thanks.
The badge is a very handsome one—a
medal pendant from an areb, on which Is
inscribed the following: April 17th, 1874.
Awarded to Private J. W. Long by Oflieera
ColumbUB Guards.
To Let.
We saw yesterday,a 'oar load of stone,
anmewhat resembling slate, which is in.
leaded for pCvamoots. Tba slabs are
about tWo Mst by-Hx, add about four
inches thiok, and were brought here by
Hsnry MoCauley from his quarry near
Birmingham. We should think it would
be about as obeap aa brink, and mnoh
pleasanter for pedestrians.

Everyone who oan leave to-day ahould
attend the City Light Guards, pio-nio, at
Fort Mitchell, on the Mobile and Girard
railroad to-day. It ia to be aa elegant
affair. Both military oompanim are going
and two brass bands. There will be prise
drills, target praotioe, games of every
character, dancing, and all varieties of
amusements that will afford pleasure. A
large platform has been erected for the
dancers. We hear all the belles of the
town are going.. The charge is only fifty
oents. The first train will leave
the Broad street depot at eight
and the second at ten o’olook.

man and a very pleasant and clever one.
At the first election after the war he was
chosen Tax Oolieetor on the bayonet

olaaaee. Fat for hie politics he would
have most probably have held the plaoe to

Another Manufactory—MUl No. A
It is stated by those who should know,
that the Eagle and Phenix Manufacturing
Company will proceed very shortly to the
ereotion of mill No. 3. The structure is
to be of briok, and of equal sixe with No's
1 and 2. This is gratifying intelligence.
The employment furnished wUl be a bless
ing to many a poor family this inaotive
summer, while its operation will add to
the importance of the leading mill compa
ny in Georgia.
Cotton fhr Mottle.
Over four hundred bales of cotton have
been Bhipped this week to MobUe. It is
understood that a vessel is loading for
Spain, and this ootton is to bo put on

now here destined for the same direction.
t-'jctonoioo Grain Crape.
It is a pleasant sight to see so many
fields in small grain, where formerly oot
ton waa planted. This is notioed the en
tire route to Atlanta. The crop is very
good. Some corn is seen peering from
the ground. The soil is ohook-full of
water, and all the streams are very full.
