—The Advocate says Greenville was last
week visited by an Internal Bevenne man,
who went to the stores end confiscated ail
the tobaooo found ont of the boxes. Some
of the merchants bed knocked the boxes
off and placed the tobeoco on the shelves,
for convenience, and it was in that condi
tion when the tax man found it. The law
requires the tobacco to be kept in the
boxes, which having been stamped, stand
aa an evidence of that faot.

Uonboe, La., April 26.—The water
of the Mississippi causes people to con
tinue coming in from the roar ae the water
approaches. The sidewalks and streets
are only paatnres for stook. The loss of
cattle aud hogs by tbe overflow amount
to a very great sum. The enn has shone
all day and there ia pruapeot of better
weather.

ALABAMA FMENHET.
Selma, April 27.—The Alabama river is
two feet above high water mark of July,
1872, and still rising slowly. Tbe water
lacks two inches of being in tbe press
room 'of the Daily Timee building, which
stands sixty feet above low water. Biver
lands sooth of Selma submerged. Great
destruction of crops. Old inhabitants
never saw three snchovciflows in ^six
weeks.

The Memorial celebration to-day was
very imposing. An Immense procession

Westera Rivers.
Wabhinton, April 27.—The Signet Of
fice reports that the Mississippi river has
risen slightly daring tbe pest twenty-fonr
boars throughout its entire oonrse, from
St. Paul to New Orleans. Tbe riM at the
Utter plaee, however, U only two inches,
while the greatest rise {(at Dubuque) is
only tone inches.
The Missouri river has fallen steadily
from Yankton to Boonville, and risen
thence slightly to its month.
Tbe Ohio has risen four inches at Pitts-
bnrg, flve fact at Cincinnati and a little
at Louisville, below whioh oity it has fal
len to it* mouth.
The Bed river has risen four inohes at
Shreveport.
The Alleghany, Oamberland, Potomac
and HonongaheU have fallen—the Utter
rapidly.

Washington, April 27.— BeporU were
in oircnlation to-day that the Freedmen's
Savings Bank had oiosed its doors, bnt
they were unfounded. During tbe after
noon a few depositors called at the bank
with tbeir check books, for ths purpose
of closing tbeir aoeonots by withdrawing
their deposits, bnt fearing a ran on the
institution, the management applied the
rale in their charter, which anthoriaea the
bank to require sixty days notice previons
to tbe withdrawal of deposits. Depositors
requiring money for current business pur
poses were accommodated.

person who hss a Diploma from an Incorporatad
Medical College ia authorised to practice Medicine
within this 8tate.
All other practitioners aro required to obtain a
license from the Board of Physicians, which will
be granted only after passing a satisfactory exam
ination before said Board. All Apothecaries and
Druggists ara also required to appear before tbe
same Board for txamiuatiou touching their knowl
edge of Drugs aud 1'harmncy. If found competent,
license will be issued authorizing the holder
thereof to compound and sell Medicines.
'No person shall vend or expose f<*r sale any
Drugs or Medicines without cbtnining a license
therefor.” See Code.
Any one violating tli» foregoing provisions sub
jects himself to fine or imprisonment, or both,
together with the forfeiting of tbeir legal rights
as sgainst the debtor for any claim that may accrne
for medical services rendered, or sale of Drugs and
MedicineH.
